Help!!! Tranny is Jerking on 3rd 2001 GS300
Hello to all,
Pretty new to the forums.
I have a 2001 GS300 with tip tronic. 105k miles.
Just got the car about a month ago and it seems the previous owner didn't service the transmission on time.
The car surprised me with a delay and then suden jerk when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, after that all is ok.
I don't feel it's slipping at all just that jerk, i don't drive it hard when its about to shift from 2nd to 3rd to avoid damage i guess.
I went ahead and changed the tranny fluid with (type 4) of course and threw in half of a Lucas bottle.
Took it for a drive on the Highway and it started shifting ok most of the time.
Its been about three weeks and its starting to jerk again.
Tranny fluid color is still looking reddish but not fully red.
Dont have a clue what this could be but im about to change the tranny fluid and filter again this time to see what happens. Does the filter really affect this?
I was reading on the forums that if your battery is going bad it may affect the tranny controls???
I noticed that the engine is turning slower than normal when starting the car.
Looking forward to your comments.
Thanks!

when you say you changed, do you mean drain+fill? or complete flush?
If you just drain+fill, you might need to do it a few more times, as the full capacity is way more then just the drain fill.

Yes, drain and fill.
I just did a second drain and fill, I haven't done the complete flush yet.
Just took it around the block and so far so good.
I think i will eventually have to do another drain and fill or i am considering doing the full flush.... Lets see what happens

From the first drain and fill of tranny fliud i remember the ECT mode making the car shift ok.
It feels like the problem with the shifting is only when i take off slowly or normally.
If i speed off a bit it shift's ok.
This is starting to get on my nerves.

If the MAF was bad wouldn't the check engine light be on? Or wouldn't the car be running like crap?
I was reading other post on from back in 01 from other members having the same trouble with the hard jerking when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

My light never came on. The most common problem with the MAF is it just gets real dirty. You do have a over 100k on the car and I bet it has never been cleaned.
What type of air filter is in the car? OEM? or aftermarket?

My friend noticed that my MAF was dirty and cleaned it with some sort of spray (carb cleaner I believe) and the transmission started shifting faster and smoother. Although carb cleaner probably isn't ideal, I can say for sure the MAF should be cleaned with 105k miles.

Mine was so dirty it looked like a ball of resin from a bong was on it. It could not be cleaned. I bought a new one and installed it. Fixed all my bad shifting problems. And I never had any lights come on.

How many miles did your MAF have to be so bad off?
