VSC, i think it stands for vehicle skid control, it makes it so you dont just constanly spin your tires, once they spin to a certain point it automaticly stop power from going to them.

P.S. The GS400 is the worst for snow made IMO, i dont even bother trying to take it out when it snows here or ices, if you need to drive it invest in some snow tires, good ones, and maybe some chains if really needed

Default VSC

Vehicle stability control.

Helps prevent over-steering by automatically applying braking to the front wheel on the "outside", or helps to prevent under-steering by applying rear brakes, singly or both.

TRAC.

On a RWD vehicle applies the rear brakes if it detects wheel spin/slippage, and will dethrottle the engine if the slippage persists.

Buy a really good set of snowchains or a Ford Escape.

As you've found out, the GS is not a great snow car......RWD w/o an LSD. But what it really has (if you have 17s) is crappy tires for snow (the 17"wheel/tire combo is strictly marketed as a "summer" tire, which means it's not worth ****t in the snow). But a set of dedicated snows on 16" wheels from TireRack and snow will at least be doable with VSC and TRAC.

turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, now press the VSC button and push the gas pedal all the way . Now sit back and enjoy the ride!!!!!

You can't get a factory installed LSD on the GS4. There are LSD's available for the GS4, but they run about $1,500 or more installed.

Welcome to the club!!!!

I think the Snow mode works great...smooths the hp and torque curve flat so smooth acceleration....works for me....no skiding...and the VSC works well too..leave it on! (unless it's race time!)

Stock GS come with open differential and 3.23 gear ratio. If you want the Limited slip function. You HAVE to go the either Toyota Torsen style or TRD clutch type LSD

Just to second Jacob's comment, there is definitely no stock LSD on the GS. For Lexus cars, only the IS300 has an optional torsen-type LSD from factory. Not sure about the SUVs. Years ago, LSD was a more common feature from factory because of safety reasons. Now with computers like VSC and TRAC, or equivalent, manufacturers are using these for safety, and LSD is no longer required. Of course the computers do not address the performance aspects, thus the reason to retrofit.
