Hi Guys,
Want to install one of these units in my 1998 GS300 with stock pioneer audio, however have a few questions.
1) What exactly do I need before I start the install (faceplates, mounting additional cables etc.)
2) I am aware that I wont be able to use the factory amp, but I really dont want to have rewire all cables running to the doors etc, so is there an easy way to wire the new stereo whilst butchering the minimum amount of stock wiring (harnesses etc.)
3) Will the onboard amp in the new stereo sound as good as the factory amp with the door speakers?
4) Is there anyway of retaining the factory amp purely to power the rear deck subwoofer, as carry to much in my boot (trunk) to have a separate sub box etc.
Sorry for the idiotic questions guys, I have searched but would be great to have some feedback.

Search for AVIC-D3 installs for threads with pics and spcific wiring harness numbers and hardwiring to the Lexus harness.
1. If you want it to look factory you'll ahve to pony up the $$$ for the Carson Double DIN faceplate and chassis ($55). No muss no fuss here. Some complain about a thin gap around the headunit and the faceplate but that can easily be solved with some black weatherstripping from Home Depot or Lowes.
2. Factory amp (Pioneer in my case) is a 5 ohm amp, it was Lexus way of trying to rope you into buying their replacement audio components. It sucks ... rip it out and sell it to someone who is going back to stock or has blown their OEM amp.
You can run your speaker connects through the output harness from the stock amp to the door speakers. You will need the speaker half of an 87-up wiring harness (see other AVIC-D3 install guides)
3. My AVIC-D3 pushes my stock door speakers and it sounds WAY better than the stock PioneerHU
4. Go aftermarket it won't take up THAT much space. I run a Soundstream 6 channel which is about 20"L 16"D 3"H you can attach it to the seatback if need be or hang it from the rear deck .... you can't have THAT much stuff and the sound is sooooo much better. Whenever I get off my butt I'm going to be pushing Boston Acoustics in the doors @ 30watts per driver ... I currently push an aftermarket 10" sub mounted free air on the deck bridged at 100watts and have no complaints

You'd have to check the Ohm rating of the OEM sub .... I think it may be 5Ohm as well. I ended up going with an elementalDesigns SQ-10 sub mounted free air. It only cost $70 and I'm happy with it .... I can hear/feel the base doing 70 with the windows down and the sunroof open.

I was thinking about getting the Pioneer AVIC-F700BT for $429.99 BNIB from http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...IC-F700BT.html but decided not to because it takes 1 minute 30seconds to startup.
I went with the Kenwood DNX5140 for $689.99 BNIB instead, it's faster to bootup and is quicker through the menus , lets you play a dvd movie and listen to music from another source, also has 3d gps maps, and programable backgrounds...
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DNX-5140-.html
I plan to install it in my Lexus next weekend and will make a log...
