Default TOM's computer for GS

Does anyone know what this TOM's Computer is meant to do. They sell this for the GS. Does any CL members have this installed and is it worth getting?

I'm pretty sure they don't sell it for the GS but the Japansese based aristo (JZA161). It is supposed to control performance aspects of the car and hence increase the power output as well as tweak couple other functions. It is not compatible with your lexus GS400/GS300/GS430.

I don't think Steve would have it on his site if it dodn't work with the US spec GS....

About an year ago, we had this discussion and Steve sent back all the information to TOM'S in order to develop the ECU for GS. I met with Steve 3 weeks ago and he still hasn't heard anything back from them. It's not going to work. The ECU is different in Aristo and GS.

RA, can you clarify your statement?

Steve sent back what information to TOMs?

Why would TOMs send anything to Steve in the first place if the Aristo is not sold here in the US?

Thanks for helping me understand.

Steve thought that they would work for US-spec GS300/400s, but I checked the TOMs site and found out that it's only for the Japanese Aristo V300 and S300 so I told him, and I think Steve is looking for solutions.

However I do not think they'll work AT ALL. Even the US and Japanese spec ECU harness is different quite a bit. Even if you have a GS300 and it's the same as the S300 Aristo in Japan, it's not going to work.

In conclusion they will NOT work with GS300/400/430.

Looks like JET is the only one that has an ECU upgrade solution in the States...

I remember Steve sent back couple GS300/400/430 ECU and maybe other stuffs (not sure). Since we are all Toyota, TOM'S can easily access GS spec via Toyota. To be honest with you, I don't think we will see any result anytime soon.

Why not just call Steve directly? It's 1-800 #. Doesn't cost you a dime to call unless you are on cell phone.

Question

Exactly what are the differences between the S300 and US-Spec GS3's? Besides having different drive side...

I think Japanese Aristo S300s still have the exact same setting as 1998 GS300s, with 228hp. US GS300 was cut to 220hp from some ignition timing thing due to emissions I forgot....

ECU....... I think Japanese version has like some extra pins (or some less pins? I'm totally out of it now) so some electronic parts harness don't just plug-and-play. I encountered that problem when i was looking for S-AFC.

Most of us get leather....... most of them cloth....

They have a GREAT NAV/TV system......... we have this.

They have a turbo brother....... we have a V8 brother.......

that's about all i can think of now.

Thumbs down

And dude, what pisses me off to the max (I will never forgive Lexus America for this, so **** you if you're reading this), but the V300 with cloth and walnut trim has an MSRP of like $34-35K on Toyota's Japanese Website...

well that's due to the current exchange rate so you can't really say it's THAT bad. Back then when USD and Yen was 1:100, it's still 44k~45k for a V300.

Don't blame Lexus of America because all japanese cars are like that. If you wanna blame, blame the import duty and taxes on import cars. Who doesn't want a new NSX for 70k?
