Hey, Just REPEATING the B.S. line the ****** salesgeek used on me !!

I don't know the exact details of a G4 cockpit..........yet.

I think the point here is that there was some sort of shady background on that car. My wife who has worked in the auto biz for 22yrs now, noticed holes in the explaination of where the car came from...
She was told it was a lease repo the guy who had leased it supposedly only had it 4 mos. but in looking at the regist tags expiration date she was able to determine that was a lie also.(she does alot of biz w. the DMV as well)

In any case, please understand I am not making this up. And standing out on the car lot really doesn't give me the opportunity to hold court and pick apart the waves of crap these sleezebags are douching me with. I am trying to figure this car out and have alot of different things going thru my head, all the while being badgered by the schmuck who's insisting this G4 is "like new" "clean" and "runs great".

Again, I was only REPEATING the storyline that was given to me.

Thumbs up Majority Rules

Well guys, first of all I appreciate all your votes and posts. Considering that I can choose either car for the same price and will not be doing any heavy engine mods( i.e. Super/Turbocharged/NOS), I have decided to go with the GS400. From what I've read from most of you these cars appear to be able to last well into the high 100k range so any mileage under 100k ( or even more) should not be a problem to own. I will also be doing all the proper inspections (leakdown, compression etc...) on the car before I by it and review the service records. On top of that I will be buying an Aftermarket warranty so I think my GS purchase should be pretty worry free. Thanks again for all the help on informing me on which car to go with.

Plus I do not wan't to spend more than maybe $2k in aftermarket equipment. And wouldn't adding forced induction void any warranties on the GS300?
If you aren't going to do any mods then a GS4 would be the ticket.

Makes sense. Think about it, both the 3.0 liter I-6 and 4.0 Liter V-8 are pushing around essentially the same weight car.

Which one is going to have to work harder say, going up a long hill? or accelerating onto a freeway from the on-ramp?

Just my .02, but based on actual conversation.
Interesting conversation since you have a GS300. Do you think your engine will last 300k? And isn't your model heavier then the current ones?

I decided on the GS4 because I wanted the performace w/o having to rely on engine mods. It costs about 8k more but to me it worth every penny...faced with your decision, I would definately go wtih the GS4. It is very satifying knowing that you can blow the doors of almost any non-modifed sedan on the street.

It's claimed that the 3.5 Altima is faster in the 1/4 then the GS4x. I tend to believe so as well. See link and follow thread for details.

Why do you think it so interesting, since I have a G3? I can only imagine you failed to perceive that we might be looking at stepping up to a G4.....

Based on the way my particular G3 has been cared for since new, at this point in it's life, yes I believe it could possibly last that long. But that is only a guess. My G3 has been totally pampered since new, never driven hard, garaged without exception and maybe once in it's life gone an extended period and actually put 3k on am oil change, usually we change oil at 2.5k

Actually I have not gotten into comparing wgts of the two, If you have, by all means please share your findings with everyone. H'ver I typed in "Lexus specifications" to my browser and a UK site came up, called "Lexus Archives" I checked into it and found that 1st gen GS3's are listed as 1700kg(3746lbs) 2nd gen gs300's are listed as 1720kg(3790lbs) but those are U.K. Figures....

Not a whole lot, hope that helps you out.

Your GS new cost as much as a new GS4 so I don't know if that's really stepping up.

My post really relates to the fact that you already own a GS3 and you were wondering about the weight and how it affects the various engines durability under load. I found it curious that you were wondering that because you already know the answer based on your own car and it's similar weight to the 2nd gen GS.

Thanks for your info on the weights of the cars.

You are absolutely correct. The 1st gen GS's were really expensive. I am really glad I did not take that hit on ours (orig owner was elderly man) Final year of 1st gen production('97)
base was $45k+ !!! Then come 2nd gen'98 model at $37k+ Big difference.

As far as you questioning whether going from a '93 G3 to a '98 G4 is "stepping up" or not, well, that would have to be up to the individual whose wallet was going to be opening up.

One thing that the newer GS's have that the earlier one's do not is the V V T-i technology which as you well know, enables the same I-6 to be a more powerful engine across the whole powerband. Now apply this to the Lex V-8........

That's good you didn't take the $$ hit.

The six in your car and in mine have been powering the Toyota line forever. I think it's strong enough to last 300k although at the pace I drive my car that means it last me until I am a senior citizen. I don't know if they'll have parts for it then.

I think a GS4 would be nice to have and if they had one available when I bought mine I probably would have bought one if it was at invoice. It's just hard for me to imagine paying 50K plus tax and other fees. (not cheap, just kinda poor)

Get the GS3 you will only have to buy gas once every 2 weeks! A GS3 can beat a GS4 in a half block race in reverse! How bout that! ...LOL... But for real I got mine at an unreal price with only 21k on the dash. That leaves me with more money for mods. When I am finished with it people are going to be like DAMN! Who is that in the fat *** LEX!.....Hey thats....SandRock!!!!

Um, if you check page 35 of the 2002 Lexus GS brochure it talks about dependability/reliability. The 2000-year award for dependability is based on, and I quote, "ES300, GS300, LS400, and SC 300/400"...No mention of the GS4...

Lexus facts vs. "some dude"...

Either way, you can't go wrong. I'd take the GS4.
