How to fix your trunk from falling down and banging your head, for free!!
Ok so most of us are suffering from the trunk supports being weak so it falls down if it even opens.
So you can buy a new set of rods $80 from lexus for one with a spoiler or without.
You can move the arm into the furthest back setting to increase the tension on the torsion arms.
Most of us have moved them already and it still falls but is slightly better.
If you have weak rods and a spoiler , your head will have lines on the back of it from the trunk spillting it open when it falls down.
OK ............
So here is my newest solution which i did this morning in 10 minutes.
The results are i press the trunk button and it pops the trunk and opens it all the way nice and slow !!!!!
OHHH it is so amazing to have a trunk lifd that opens.
Alright now that i made you suffer through this long post. You need a drill and a drill bit.
Pull the carpet back on the corner of the trunk ,popping off the one plastic plug.
Take the arm of one side and use it to scratch a line on the metal post that holds it . Remember a protractor from school? Well you are tracing a line where the amr goes.
Pull out a drill bit larger than the rod .
Look for a round stamped hole in the metal just below the line and use it as a guide for both sides.
Just above the line you scratched is where you will drill the hole .
Insert the rod into the newer higher torsion postion and test.
See if it is enough or not per side to see if you need to do the other side or not.
If you have some bigaz spoiler you may need to make your holes further back to increase it more.
Enjoy , if you do it right you can be like me and have an auto open trunk for free . Now only if my damn LS had rods instead of shocks

Here is how far my trunk opens on its own on an incline even. If i park facing the other way it opens all the way up.
The 2nd pic shows the hole and its relation to the original ones on the right side. The same goes for the other .

Now that sucks , i thought i was special.
In the past 8 months of reading the trunk falling down posts no one has mentioned it as an option.
Oh well , i guess its a reminder then .
