Gurgling sound from the front dashboard area...
Hi Guys,
Anybody encountered a gurgling sound arising from around the passenger front dashboard area. It only happens briefly for the first 1-3 seconds upon starting from a stop (eg, stopped at a redlight, greenlight go, gurgling sound after 1-2 seconds of moving and then disappears after 1-3 seconds). It doesn't happen if I punch it off the line hard OR if I slow down and then speed up. The cars has to come to a complete stop before I go again and only then will the gurgling sound appear.
Anybody encounter this? Clogged water in the interior AC hoses? Loose parts in the air vents? Thanks for any info...

i have the exact same problem but i have a first generation GS300. its not all the time though just some times and i figured it might be our vents. with the engine on and radion off try switching the vents from like foot up to face and up to defrost. that might be it?? it might just be the vents moving for some wierd reason.

Check if you are releasing condensation water under the car when the A/C is on. Otherwise, you might be correct in that the drain outlet/hose is plugged and water is going somewhere within the car.

I know I know!!!
The dealer did this to my '00 at the 30k service...exactly the same symptoms.
You have air in your cooling system. You will have to go to the dealer to get that fixed. It took them a couple tries to fix mine.
Hope that helps.

I second what AgGS400 said. I had the same problem with a fairly loud gurgle. Opened the coolant bleed area (can't remember where on the engine without standing in front of it) and filled the radiator until it overflowed. Sealed it up and the gurgle became *much* quieter, almost imperceptible.
I remember Dexter had a similar problem but the thread that discussed it seemed to think it was explained by the VSC system cycling.

B,
I don't know if we have the same problem, but I do hear that same sound. It is when my temperature is set at 71 and 72. But when I set it to any temp settings other that, the sound goes away. I know that doesn't fix it, but it makes it go away.

Thanks all. My girlfriend and I get into arguments over this. She keeps telling me to have Lexus check it, but I can never duplicate the gurgling noise when I turn it in. Figures huh? I'll let my service rep know about this. Thanks ALOT!
BTW, anyone also have a squeaking noise from the same area? Sounds like the dashboard and something else rubbing against eachother? Mine seems to go away when the glove box is open.
Please advise.

Dash noise.
GSs seem to have alot of dash noise.
There was a panel loose that had something to do with the ac. I believe they took the glovebox out to get to it.
Unfortunately, it didn't totally fix it but it is better.
This might be your problem.
If you need more detail, I might be able to call the dealership and ask them.

Rattle
Havent herd the gergel but did have the rattle.
My dash rattle source I traced back to the passanger side defroster vent at the top of the dash.
I was able wedge a small piece of paper between the edge of the vent and the dash on a trip back from LA. Otherwise I was going to go nuts from the noises
It would only do it at a cetain speed. 85 - 90
I also have all the other noises.
Sunroof,
Glovebox,

This may be your definitive answer...
I had the exact same problem...
It only occured from a dead stop and it sounded like a gerbil on a tread mill but softer sounding. Didn't matter if the A/C was on or not but sometimes the A/C would "mask" it.
Now here's the stupid part and if your windshield has been replaced - we're in the same boat...
When my windshield was removed, shards of glass fell into the ventilation ducting and it now "rattles" everytime the car moves forward from a dead stop. Lexus attempted to vacum it out but it only made a minor improvement.
My fix is to either "floor it" or turn up the radio.
Good Luck,
Eric Bernstein
