Question Question for the RMM\abflug grill owners

Hello all..
I am looking at getting a grill. I want the look of the RMM or Abflug. On the RMM or the Abflug I have been told it does not come with the tab to mount the factory grill latch.
How do you get the latch to work with the grill when you "pop" the hood?

thanks in advance.

I have the Abflug and no, the latch will not work. When you lift the hood tab from the inside, you come out and lift the hood up w/out having to lift the latch. I've had for quite some time and works fine. .

So I guess you just loose the safety of the latch.. is it just there to catch the hood if it comes open while driving?

How do you like it? Is the fit and finish good?

RMM has accomodations for the factory latch. Fit and finish are not that good if you look closely. It can be trimmed and filled to fit better, so you just have to have your paint person fit it and make any changes before it gets painted.

The hood is secure when it hooks, so I dont think there should be anything to worry about. Fit and finish looks to be pretty good to me. As for RMM, I do not know..

The safety latch prevents the hood from being accidentally opened and then fly off while driving. It's probably a government required safety feature.

When you say accommodations.. you mean you can take the old tab (little bracket with the two holes) and "attach" it to the RMM grill.

Please expand on your comment about trimming and filling. Its polyurethane soo what should you fill it with>?

Thanks for your help.. Glen. I know you were heavy involved in the GS RMM hay days!

Yes straight bolt on of the OEM latch.

The bumpers are poly but the grill is fiberglass. Standard body filler will do. There are some low spots and uneven gaps that don't match up well with the hood. I think the top left and right are too high and I would sand those down to be more flush with the hood. There were threads on fit/finish posted long ago so you might find pics of what I'm talking about. All the grills appear to have similar fit issues.

No prob. I plan to re-do my grill for a perfect fit.

Maybe I'll post what I did to get it right.

Lextasy has a pretty bad track record on CL. Do a search. My only real concern is how long will you wait as I'll bet they don't stock it. You could call em if you can to get a ship date commit that is cancellable.

Do you know if I can I just get this straight from RMM?

RMM does sell it, but they will almost always charge full retail. To get it cheaper, you have to find a dealer that will sell it for less. Possibly Carson?
