Default Car Shuts Off While Driving..

Alright, so lately I've been having some problems with my car. For the past 2 weeks, the Nav Screen would reset itself in the middle of driving for no reason. I didn't think much of this until last night. While driving on the freeway at around 9pm, my entire car just shuts off. I'm driving in the #1 lane and all of a sudden, my car dies...the headlights turn off, all the lights turn off, my blinkers don't work, my car has no power. The ironic part of this is that my car would restart itself 10 seconds or so later and everything would come back to full power. Now my question is, what is the source of this problem? I had a new alarm put in towards the end of May and it hasn't reacted like this until now. Any feedback?

I did that last night and everything seems to be going fine now..but I'm afraid that there may be a greater underlying problem.

If you say no power I would think it's battery related. Like he said, those cables from the battery do get loose over time. Also, make sure your battery is strapped down good.

Sounds like battery or alternator to me. Good luck figuring it out

my car recently did the same a few weeks back. I was driving and the radio shut off and didnt come back on. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the car off and it barely started up, and the dash board lights all came on. I got it back to the house but barely as it just started to die out. It started up fine the next morning, but I was hardly a block from my house on my way to the mechanic and it died.

The battery was less than 2.5 yrs old. Replaced it with a new one, she started up, got her to the mechanic, and the alternator was shot. Mine is a 98 GS400.

Good luck, and hopefully its nothing major like mine was.

I also think that it may be a weak battery or a alternator going bad, have them both tested for free at Autozone.

It's easy to check if it's the alternator. Turn the car on then disconnect the battery, if the car shuts off it's the alternator.

I had the same problem, positive battery terminal was the culprit....I notice you have an amp installed, my problem was that the clamp that held my power wire to the terminal was too fat and over time worked the cable off the terminal slightly which is why the car would shut off but cut back on because they touching just enough (weird as hell at 45 mph lol) Tighten your connections, hope this helps it did for me
