Default 2004 GS430 Air Conditioner AC Problem

Hello To All,
I've had my GS for 2 years with no problems, have been using my AC for about 1 month this summer season, howevbre it has not been too hot so it seemed to work ok. Today was the first really hot day (88 F.) When I turned up the AC, it started working ok, however after a few minutes seemed like cold air became less cool + felt like air was not blowing as hard.
I went to a mechanic who recharged freon for me, felt like the AC is back up and running, however that is not the case.... As is now I'm still noticing that AC only runs for a few minutes, es[pecially when I turn it up to MAX, the cold air stops producing. Another interesting fact is when I choose to circulate inside air, the option begins to switch between inside/outside circulation automatically as if its trying to turn something on but can't.
I would appreciate any suggestions/tips. Thank you in advance...

Make sure you are not on AUTO mode first. Turn the A/C on manually by hitting the fan switch to desired speed. Also when using the A/C, use only recirculate mode to get maximum cold duration. Last the temp should be set to max cold which is 60 or 65. GL.

Thanks GS4, I'm not in auto mode... I always turn on the AC manually as you are suggesting. When I choose recirculate it begins to swith between recirculate and outside air and back.

some small tips till you do find out whats going on.....clean the radiator & a/c condenser coil will a spray on, foaming is recommended a/c coil cleaner, you'll be surprised how dirty this is! also remember a/c will ALWAYS be colder when air is moving over the radiator & a/c condenser coil and i know its alot of stop/go if your livin in the actual city in NY. just get back to me and i'll try and help you out...i manage a HVAC-R supply house locally here but im getting so busy im hard to get during the week now...i will try and stay tuned

Why did the mechanic recharge the freon for you assuming it wasn't low nor was there a leak? Of course if it was low then you wouldn't be getting normal cold AC air but rather barely cool air constantly. Here's something I experienced with my old ES's AC system a few years back. When the engine was cold and at least the intial 10+ minutes of driving around, the AC would work with no problem. Once the engine warms up completely, the AC would quit working blowing out non-cooled air. After the car is parked for a few hours, AC would work again but quit after engine warmed up. Took it in the Lexus dealer and I was told my ES AC unit (compressor, condenser, ...) were all shot and required total replacement at a cost of $2400. I didn't believe their story so I took it into an independent garage that specialised in cooling and AC work. They found the problem after just 20 minutes--it was a faulty thermo switch and a bad dryer. The total cost for the repair including new freon was under $350 and the AC worked beautifully after that. Not sure whether your vehicle has a similar problem like my old ES. Good luck.

Correct, but most housing HVAC systems don't run condenser fans to help cool during warm stagnant nights, industrial units might, not really sure. Unlike houses cars have condenser fans, and unless those aren't turning on or your cooling fans, there's a problem with the system, and very well could be blockage over the condenser, but it should remain cold, the high side psi would be very high if the condenser is blocked, but you can't read pressure with the proper gauges.

Ok, if you have ruled out anything like blockage, and obviously signs of a leak, do some proper diagnosing...
Step one. Put the AC system into diag mode. Key off engine off, press and hold "AUTO" and "Recirc" at the same time. While holding these 2 buttons, turn the key to on, but don't start the car. The system will flash a bunch of 888 as it is processing the data. It will then blink the LEDs 5 times in about 5 seconds. Once it has blinked 5 times let go, and the DTC's will flash in the LCD display. If there are not codes, you will 00 and it will blink continuously until you turn the key to the off position.
Step two. Let us know what DTCs, if any, and we can help you to diagnose it a little easier.

Just a heads up, HVAC stuff is a little out of the DIY range, however we can sure help you try to find the issue assuming others can chime in from experiences and previous knowledge.

Hope this helps.
