Prices for hood paint jobs
Hi!
I was wondering if you guys could give me an insight on good pricing of repainting a hood. I'm kind of paint crazy and I hate the hood chips on my car and the only way to do it right would be to repaint the whole hood.
I have #199 Lexus Silver on my 99 GS and would like to repaint the whole hood and not just paint over what I have now.
Anybody do this and care to share the price with me?
I live in Los Angeles if anybody can suggest a nice body/paint shop too.
Thanks!
Ryan

Still need prices...or is everybody here super safe in driving and have bra's on their cars and not have any paint chipping?

Actually, no body work is required. I just have lil rock chips that in my opinion are unsightly and no matter how I use touch up paint, it never matches. I was planning on taking it to airbrush but since well, my car is silver and metallic and it's never gonna be the same. Airbrush is gonna cost around $200 and it's not perfect so I'm figuring I'll pay a bit more (depends on how much more heh heh) and just do the whole hood.
yikes $1200 is kinda steep

Like on another post I got quoted $11000 to repaint my car professionally. That's also if there was no prior damage and they did not run into any problems. I have gotten quotes as low as $7000 though. Now this is at a premium repair shop.

Hi Cshflw,
What do you mean? Did they quote you $5000 and up and then you got it down to $1400?
Please confirm

My body kit: front/rear bumper, and left/right side skirts
They wanted $1800 to paint...got down to $1400
But to walk in and say "I want a new paint job" Starts at $5000. There are many factors like most guys don't get the engine bay repainted...have to remove engine and everything on most cars. Plus door jams or anything not on the outside of the car...like the inside of the trunk, inside the trunk lid, etc.....

I had to get my bumper repaired/painted so I went to the paint shop my local Lexus sends their cars to. Just out of curiosity, I asked them how much they would charge to repaint the front end: hood, side panels, and bumper. I hate rock chips too. They quoted me $1500. I did not ask for hood alone but it would be a bit less, I suppose.
I thought that was a bit high so I am living with touched up rock chips. From some of the previous posts, though, this may not have been too bad.

My g/f got her front bumper repainted not too long ago on her GS3 for about $400 but her car is straight black so it matched up very well...
When I was looking at Cobra R hoods for my Mustang I was told that if your car isn't straight white or black that they would also have to paint the fenders to match because the new paint color won't blend with the original...and then you still have the half of you car painted one shade and the other half a different one. When you throw metallic paint into the mix, like you have, you wonder whether it's worth repainting all of those pieces to begin with and if they'll even match up well afterwords...
Just somethin to think about...
Good Luck!
