Default About to by a GS 400 some questions and advice needed.

Hey guys I was always on the LS forums but I decided to change cars.

A can possibly be getting a 1999 GS400 with 119k on the clock black interior and exterior. no navi. and trunk spoiler. and factory hids

body is decent with some minor scratches on it.

price is 5600. does anyone think that price is fair considering:

the VSC abs and vsc off lights are on. What does that mean? I tried toggling it on and off but light stays on.

and another MAJOR concern for me is the exhaust system.
it seems like when I rev up the gas in neutral or park it sounds weird.
it sounded like maybe there was a hole or something and it doesnt feel as strong as i thought it should have been when it came to the acceleration. and strongly feel thats due to whatever exhaust problem there is.
it reminded me of the EGR pipe problem on my LS but the problem sounded more intense on the GS

are these problems common on a
GS? or does anyone know what it could possibly be?

what else should I look out for or consider?

thanks a lot in advanced guys

Take the car to a mechanic and get a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) done. Its takes about an hour and cost about $100. I think that dealer also does it.

yeah its risky, i dont know if it is minor for the exhaust or not

but aside from that i just found out that it never had a timing belt change and it is at 119k miles.
that timing belt job would have to be done asap.

Arrange with the seller to take it to a dealer most convenient to them (i.e on their way to work). Prepay the dealership for the service and INSIST that the results only be given to you (if the seller wants a copy they can pay for half of the service fee).

Spending $100 to find out what you're in for is CHEAP compared to paying $5600 then staring thousands of dollars of repairs in the face.

If the seller REFUSES trust your gut and walk away ... don't pay good money to INHERIT someone else's problems unless you are fully aware of what you are getting into.
