Default Will an HID bulb/wire harness fit into non-HID headlight housing?

Hey guys.

I'm looking to replace my head lights to freshen up the front end on my 98'. The pricing for HID housings are rediculous! Do you guys know if the non-HID housings will work with the OEM HID bulb/wire harness? Any suggestions?

i don't believe there is a 9006 to D2R conversion yet. i could be wrong. easiest thing would be to get a 9006 HID kit like GS4_Fiend said above.

You would have to change out the reflector bowls because they're different bulbs. The HID housings use D2R bulbs, the non-HID use 9006.

Also.. the non HID housings dont have the cut-out for the beam leveler actuator, nor will the HID bulbs fit into the bowls, they are of different configuration.. what DarKnight said..lol

So it is possible to purchase NON HID housings and replace the reflector bowls? Does that require taking the housing apart?

Yes that is possible. Here's what I would do. Open both headlights, and swap the lens and housing to the old HID headlight. It will look brand new and work like factory.

You could technically convert your Non HID GS to a HID equipped GS. Lexus does make a conversion kit where it contains a new adapter harness and all sensors and relay. I was lucking to find one guy who paid for this conversion and got it from him when he traded his car in. All I did was install the leveler sensor and everything else was pretty much plug and play. Let me warn you that this adapater harness from lexus is around $1400. The you'll have to pay for new HID housing. It's nice to have the auto leveler though I'd say.

Yea you can do that but keep in mind you wont have beam auto-level.. the non HID housings don't come with the auto-level actuator placement hole cut out like the HID housings do.

Are you talking about the auto-level sensor or the auto-level actuator??

Both since the factory option harness comes with the sensor to provide auto leveler for the actuator behind the HID housing.

Hi,

If you are interested in getting a 9006 HID kit I would suggest looking at the 4300k HID kit for the most OEM look and feel.

In terms of D2S or D2R, Our HID conversion kits use a D2S bulb. We have
done various experimentation and for a retrofit application or OE application out side of Europe the D2R bulb is not required. The stripe on the D2R lamps helps hide the salts which would appear as parasitic images in the light dark transition area of the European Asymmetric dip pattern. On a retrofit or DOT beam pattern (Your headlight)
you do not have this light dark transition requirement therefore the D2S
bulb is just fine for any application.
