I don't know why.I guess what im saying is instead of running stag fitment can you run say 19x9.5 all around without the front sticking out past the fenders. What offset and has anyone done it.

I'm in the process of switching from 8.5/9.5 staggered to 9" all around.
Here's what I know:
18X8.5 +35 w/ 245/40-18 fit my 01GS430 front with no fender mods and no rubbing at all
18X9.5 +35 w/ 275/40-18 fit my rear no rubbing on the leftvery minor rubbing on the right
I'm switching to 18X9 +42 all the way around an according to a online wheel offset calculator here's the differences:
Front: inner clearance - 13mm fender clearance +1mm
Rear: inner clearance +1mm fender clearance +13mm
I read here on CL that someone has run 9' wide +30 front offsets that is -11mm clearance on 8.5" +35 which I KNOW to have fit without issue. Based on 9" +30 fitting you would have to find a wheel that is 9.5" +48 but you would have -26mm (or ~ 1") less clearance on the backside/suspension side of the wheel. IMHO I don;t think it will fit.
Hope that helps

Remember 25mm = 1"
When you go from lets say a 8.5" +30 to a 9.5" +30 it's not going to stick out an extra inch, it's going to only stick out .5" because it's going to split the 1" difference on the inner lip and outer lip of the wheel.
So 9.5" w/30mm offset is = to a 8.5" 15mm offset In regards to how the fitment will look on the outside of the fender.

you just use the wheel offset calculator to suss this stuff out quickly:
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
but there is obviously no reason you cant have the same width all round, but you are generally going to have less clearance up front to allow for turning etc so you will either need to strike a compromise front to rear, or get different offsets front to rear.
