2000 GS daytime running lights
When I bought my GS i noticed the daytime running lights were working while riding around town. The next day they were no longer on. Does anyone know how to engage the daytime running lights again?

Are you sure they are not working? When I first bought my 00 LS, I thought my DRL wasn't working either until I realized that they don't turn on until the transmission is shifted into Drive. Once they are on, the DRL stays on even after the transmission is shifted back into Park and they say on until the lights are turned off manually with the switch or automatically if the light switch is in the Auto position.
I always leave the light switch in the Auto position since I'm frequently in and out of covered/underground parking garages.

Yeah i'm sure...i look for them in the reflection off cars in front of me and they arent on....I dont know what I did to turn em off but I want them back on! I thought about the fuse thing too but if i'm not mistaken, the same small bulbs used for daytime running lights are also the ones that are on when the headlights are on. they work with headlights but not as daytime running lights

iRideLex, I'm wondering if it was really your low beam headlights and not the DRL that were on during the first day you owned your the car and if a previous owner had deactiviated the DRL.
The headlights could have been on that first day if the light switch was in the "headlight" position or if the light switch was in the "Auto" position and something was laying on top of the dash covering the ambient light sensor. The ambient light sensor is at the very left on the dash top of my 00 LS and more than once I've inadvertently covered it with something and caused the headlights to be on during the day.
Unfortunately, turning the DRL function on/off on a 2000 Lexus is not a dealer customizeable CBES/LPS setting like it is on later models. From what I've seen, the people who "deactivate" DRL on older Lexus cars usually do it by snipping wires.
There are likely several places where wires could be cut to deactiviate the DRL but one place is at the DRL main relay. Here is a thread where forum member gewani1 reconnected a cut wire at the DRL relay on his 2000 LS400 to get his DRL working again: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-in-ucf20.html
I don't know where this relay is on a 2000 GS but you might find out and take a look.
I've never understood why so many people - and especially GS owners - strongly dislike DRL. I haven't driven without DRL or headlights on during the day since a hot summer day in 1969 when I had a near head-on rural 2-lane highway collision while driving my "invisible" little silver 1956 Mercedes SL -- blended right in with the gray road color and the "highway mirage" caused by the heat.
By the way, attached is a list of CBES/LPS features than can be customized on your GS. The list is for a 98-99 but it is the same on the 2000.

No it was the smaller lights near the grille that were on...only worked for that day tho...only thing i can think of is maybe someone at my oil change place did something inadvertently. I like riding with the DRL on way better than without....theres a reason they make them standard on most cars now....thanks for the answers i'll check em out
