gs430 made #3 in the top 10 for most expensive cars to insure 2002
At CBSMarketwatch there's an article sourced from insure.com that lists the top 10 cars to insure for 2002.
Here's the list in order from most costly:
Mitsubishi Montero Sport
Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Lexus GS 430
Cadillac Escalade
BMW 7 Series
Honda Civic Coupe
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Mitsubishi Mirage Coupe
Toyota 4Runner
BMW 5 Series
The article didn't explain why the GS430 was #3 but noted other cars such as the Civic as being highly stolen. The noted BMW drivers as being a little more agressive than average. I wonder what category the GS430 sits in. Any guesses? The Montero Sport had the worst record for number of claims for injuries, collisions and theft.

The quote I got for the 02 GS430 I ordered is $500 more per year (same coverage/deductable) than my 300M. After increasing the deductables from 100/100 to 500/500 I will beable to close that gap to $200 per year. Oh well, atleast I'll be riding in style!

Insurance is a Rip Off Anyway, they look for any excuse to force you to pay higher premiums. And when something does happen to your car they look for any reason not to pay you what you deserve even though you made payments each month.
And don't mention how you get screwed if you start modifying the car, new radio etc. or get a ticket oh man!!!!

Where in the hell is the Viper??? According to my agent, that car is and has been in their #1 spot for highest to insure and fix per crash! I only pay just over a 1 Grand a year for as much coverage as any human being could want including rental car!!!

I don't think the list is completed as TXSTYLE mentioned.
If you want to lower your insurance rate, try www.aisinsurance.com
For you who listen to Rick Dees every morning in So Cal, I'm sure you already know.

The article did mention that limited production cars such as high end sports cars did not make the list.
Heck, my Integra GSR costs more to insure than my GS400.
The teg costs $1100 while the GS is only $800 for full coverage. I guess cuz it's a coupe and it's probably a high theft item.
My guess is that GS430s are expensive to fix. For the most part, I think GS drivers are older and not that aggressive when driving...except those few who frequent clublexus.

$820/year for 2000 GS400
100K/300K Liability
Comprehensive is Actual Cash Value
Deductible is $500 except for windshield $100 only
The windshield deductible is worth it. I cracked mine the first year and was able to get it replaced by my Lexus dealer for $100. At first AAA wanted to replace with OEM glass but I wasn't sure if that was the same Toyota glass from the factory. So I insisted on getting it replaced by my Lexus dealer. The actual costs was something like $850.

I think it's performance based
My ins. co. , charges me a performance surcharge, because of the power to weight ratio and the ability to reach 60mph in less than 6 seconds. The Montero issue is one of safety/rollover risk. I think with the exception of the Civic and Mirage the reasons are either performance based or rollover risk. For the Civic/Mirage, its the ricer thing and the fact that they are small cars. I see people driving them when I'm in my Expedition and my front bumper is at the level of their head.
