Can I turn a GS into a M5 fighter?
I am seriously considering buying a GS430 and was wondering how to boost the 300 HP motor? My goals are simple:
I need to use it as my everyday car.
I want to spank the M5 that lives near by.
If any of you have installed a supercharger on your GS I would love to know what has been your experience? What kind of gas milage to you get? Is there any special service required? How much is it?

well Im not sure about the GS430 but I do know that the GS400 can be an M5 killer . Swift Racing has a number of supercharger upgrades to satisfy your needs. as for gas milage, I think someone has stated that with the stage 2.5 supercharger they got 15/18mpg so it not too bad considering there getting pretty close to 500hp at the flywheel ( they dynod there car with 359hp at the wheels )

a GS430 cannot be made into a M5 fighter without ALOT OF MONEY AND EFFORT. It's much easier to make a GS300 a M5 fighter. GS300 = 40k, GS430 = 55k. (options might vary) 15k difference can get you Toyomoto stage 2 turbo kit (for IS..... will it work for GS300? Most likely) which gives you about 450rwhp...... which means 500~540 crank HP. Now compare 500hp on the GS300 turbo with the 400hp that M5 has.....
Do I hear M5 KILLER? and it's automatic too
so if you want good performance out of the box, go with the GS430. If you want M5 fighter, go with GS300 and turbo (no way you can beat M5 with GS430 without forced induction, but there's nothing out there for that engine)

Well, here is my experience with the supercharger on the GS.
I am using the SRT stage 2.5 supercharger running at 7.5lbs of boost. That is putting me at about 360rwhp/306 torque. I posted my dyno sheet in another thread . That is over 450hp at the crank, if I am not mistakened. I am about to go to 9lbs of boost to get at 400rwhp (stage 3). I modded my suspension, brakes, and wheels to handle that power. (Check out my signature. For the mods I have, you are looking at 6K-10k (depending how far you want to take your car with the stages), but when you add that to the price of a M5 (75k-77k), you still are not near that price.
As far as driving, I use it as an everyday car. No problems cruising, or in stop/go traffic. There is basically nothing that you have to do with the supercharger. Depending on the type of supercharger, you may have to change the oil every 3000 miles. But that is not hard at all. My supercharger is getting oil from my engine, so I just have to keep getting my oil changed every 3000 miles with synthetic oil, like I would regularly.
Pros:
- CRAZY power on tap at ALL times
- People will be drawn to your car, everytime you park (car owners)
- You can basically CRUSH most stock cars out there, and still maintain the Lexus quality.
Cons:
- You will now have the problems that most high HP sport cars have with: 1) driving in the rain/snow 2) traction 3) gas mileage
- Noise factor. The supercharger adds noise to your engine, so you will lose the "quiet" hum of a Lexus. SRT is working on a closed system, that will greatly reduce that noise, as I type.
- People will be drawn to your car, everytime you park (crooks)
The M5 IS a great car, but I just can't see spending 75K, and worrying about it breaking down as BMW tend to do in time.
You can get a quality used GS400, and put a supercharger/handling mods/brake upgrade for a lot less, may be less than 40K all together, AND have a M5 "KILLER".
I decided to just mod my car, because I actually LIKE my GS, and why spend an extra 15K, and have a huge car note, when I could just mod my car. The added bonus is that NO ONE EXPECTS A LEXUS TO BE MODDED!!! lol That appeal in having a VERY unique car was enough for me.
Hope this helps

ShowGSLuVv - No problem with the questions. Highway speed is where the S/C shows its colors! When I am at 60-70mph (highway speed), and WOT it, you get to 120-130 VERY quickly, and it is so smooth that you don't realize how fast you are going until you hit the brakes. I haven't race a stock GS from a 60 roll, but from the feel of it, I would say probably 4 to 5 cars, at least, I would put on a stock GS. Especially from a 60 roll on. My car is putting out an additional 100+hp to the rear, so I have a 1/3 more power than a stock GS. You have your typically 0-60 test, and then your 60 to 100 test. Thats where the S/C has a VERY huge powerband (4th gear). I was able to put 5 cars on a BMW Z3 M coupe last Sat, and that was from a 75 mph roll on. I was at 125mph when I stopped (traffic), and if it had been a totally open road, he would have been more cars behind me, definitely. I will try to get someone with a stock GS in MD, and have a couple of test to compare.
