Default Whats a good intake? NEED HELP

I want to put an intake on my 1999 GS300, but im soooo confused. First off, I have some people telling me that since only short ram intakes are available for my car, the stock intake is actually better and I should stick with that. Others tell me that adding an intake will give me better performance and sound. To make things worse, I don't know which brand to buy. They all look the exact same to me, just the prices are different.
Here are a few that I saw:

Aftermarket intake for $25

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-99...Q5fAccessories

After Market Intake $50

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...Q5fAccessories

Aftermarket Intake w/ k&n filter $70

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-05...Q5fAccessories

Weapon R Intake $145

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Weapo...Q5fAccessories

These all look exactly the same to me. Has anyone had experience with any of these? I need as much info as possible. Thanks guys

I noticed that your location is Cali and a little fyi none of these intakes are carb legal which means you will fail smog with these intakes. If you get a non carb legal intake I suggest keeping your old one and swaping it back on you car when you get your car smogged or buy a carb legal intake. The K&N fipk intake is carb legal .

Wish K&N made one for an 02 gs3. Bastards..I have this same dilemma and think the SRT requires way more car brains than I have, I was looking at the Weapon R secret intake as it claims to make double the power of the dragon for a $60 difference in price..Still puzzled though

Living in CA you're going to have the CARB issue, additionally, the market for intakes is drying up. From what I've heard and experienced the SRT is the king of the hill as far as intakes but is also a cost leader. Their results stand up to their claims though. You'll have to remove and rewire every time you go in for inspection so that may not be an option.

Injen makes an intake for your car that's CARB legal and I like quite a bit. you'll need to order the application for the IS300 and it should bolt right up to the GS300. This should give you some options as far as Apexi Neo or some other air/fuel management system that you "might" be able to conceal everything for inspection. Nice mid-cost intake.

The Weapon R Secret Weapon is a REALLY nice intake for just a little money but you’ll have the CARB issue to deal with sooner or later. You really won’t gain any HP but it sounds nice.

For the money, I think the best bet for a little sound and the most horsepower gain on the GS300 is a HKS high-performance Super Hybrid Filter or a K&N drop in filter. Paired with an exhaust that’s probably your best bet. Maybe some of the guys in CA can lend a suggestion but my .02 cent is a dry-drop in filter.

i got the hks drop in filter. but to be honest i really don't know if i gained any h.p. i pretty much bought it right when i bought the car. when i got the car i looked at the filter and if was filthy so i called my buddies shop and order a filter. the reason i din't get the k&n is because it was like 3x the price. i think the k&n was like $85 vs the hks at $30 or something like that. if anyone knows the h.p. gains i would be interested to know. gl
