Whoa there, neither the Altima or G35 have electroluminicent lights, they are plain bulbs (orange ones:eek: ).

Infinititi I35.QX4, Q45 have em ala Lexus

really? what exactly does illumins.... mean? I know the lex. for sure has them, but the only diff. between the lights on the q45 and the altima is the color...

Glad you asked. If you notice in your SC 400, the light seems very constant and bright. There are lil tiny bulbs in the needles and bright bulbs behind the dash. When you turn the car off, you'll notice that you cannot see your odometer etc!

Your GS has Optitron guages which are different. Well the background is all white instead of black not to mention the gauges intensity will change in sunlight or under tunnels etc.

I believe the Nissan gauges are just lights like any other car. They are lit by maybe 2/3 bulbs that are ORANGE in color.

Okay I am thinking of getting the G35 Coupe as a third car but not the first run of the vehicle.

First of all, someone mentioned the sluggishness of the launch. Throw in a better TC and you are there. Should compliment the car fine and then would have a leg up in the G35 vs stock GS400 race.

However with the rumors that there will be a turbo version of the Z350 and hopefully (but probably not) a version of the G35 coupe the following year makes me really want to consider getting this car.

Imagine getting a 400HP G35 with a good torque converter. It would blow a current M5 away but probably not the newer 500HP M5 monster coming out.

So I may show my ignorance with this question, but what does a torque converter have to do with a manual transmission? I know that you never mentioned a manual tranny in your post, but I would assume that anyone looking at the G35 coupe would be wanting the manual tranny, and I would further imagine that any turbo version would have a manual tranny as well.

You are assuming they will make a manual for the G35. It may be bypassed and only be offered to the 350Z. That goes for the turbo as well. Hopefully this is not the case.

I would actually get an auto with a better tc anyway since I live in high traffic areas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and parts of Sacramento. Most of these drives involve way too much stop and go for me to buy a stick. Heck in Sacramento right now I go 4 miles in 30 minutes to get home. In LA it was better at 20 miles in 75 minutes, and in SF, forget it.

Now living in Timbuktu or just weeknd driving is a different story. I would drive the G35 often since it depreciates much faster than a Lexus.

I'm assuming your response was to me. So actually it's already confirmed that both the G35 sedan AND the G35 coupe will be offered with a manual tranny. The only point of contention is that some reports say that the sedan will have a 5-speed and some say 6-speed. Given that the G35 coupe, sedan, and 350Z are all based on the same platform I don't understand what the benefits of different trannies would be for Nissan/Infiniti.

Optitron (Electro Luminicent) gauges are gauge face plates that are made with special composite plastic that's reactive to electro magnetic waves at a very low frequency. when the electricity passes through the plates then they luminate a bluish/greenish color.

Orange EL gauges...... not possible. Those are just orange bulbs behind see-through panels. The electro magnetic wave going through the panels will only generate blue/green/something in between. Those 7-color "EL" meters are just back-lit with 7 different LED bulbs.

True, the G35 and 350Z will be based on the Skyline R35, but I've heard that the differences may be similar to the ES/GS3 differences...the engine. Both will have same size engines, but the Z will sport the inline6-twin turbo, like the R34 engines. the G35s will both have the V6 engines. Don't know how true this is, but we'll see...

In regards to the dash, is that why when i turn on the car, the needles light up then the rest?
