Timing belt change - found a surprise
Hey guys,
I've been lurking around here for a while and have always been able to find good answers when I had a problem. Unfortunately, I think this problem has no good answer as I got no search results.
I'm in the middle of a timing belt change on my wife's 02 GS300. Everything was going great until I pulled off the front intake side cam bearing camp (the VVT bearing cap). Someone before me (we bought the car used) must have torqued it down too tight or something. The two rear ears are broken off. All the pieces are still there but it is completely severed on both sides.
In my experience with overhead cam motors you cannot mix/match bearing caps between heads....you've got to buy a whole new head.
Anyone got any input or want to sell me a used head?
Thanks in advance.

I have 3 extra 2JZ-GE VVTi heads for sale(don't ask why lol), I just like to keep spares
Anyways, you don't really need to worry about it. The two little holes are more or less for minor support. The two big ones in the front are what you have to worry about it. If you really want a head, I'll sell one to you. But I don't think your situation warrants an entire replacement.

I thought about just slapping it all back together but I'm concerned since the area is under the cam cover and it's not a quick/easy inspection to check for signs of trouble if I do that. If something were to go wrong, I probably wouldn't know it until I had pieces of metal in my oilpan.
