Question Does the Lexus Service dept. keep the OEM parts when doing L-tuned upgrade?

When you do an L-tuned install does service at the Lexus dealership keep the OEM parts? I'm considering having the suspension and exhaust l-tuned at my first service apt. (not when I take delivery) this way I can learn to apprecaite the l-tuned upgrade more. Would they expect to keep the OEM exhaust and springs/shocks?

It's always best to ask them for your "old" parts back, have them note it down on your Repair Order.............

I always ask to keep mine when I get something replaced or installed. Heck, I even asked to keep my old spark plugs when I had them changed just so I could inspect the old ones for their wear pattern.

Make sure you've got space in your garage or basement etc - some of this stuff takes up a lot of room (mufflers & exhaust) or is heavy (torque converter / diff).

Extra parts may comes in useful
- if you sell your car and want to put it back to stock (and part out the stuff you added)
- if you have an accident and need a replacement part (like a grill)
- sell to another CL member to replace their broken parts, or to chrome, etc.

Talking

I'm waiting on backordered front shocks from my dealer to do L-Tuned. I'll be asking them to put the old stock stuff in the L-Tuned boxes just so I'll have something to transport them in (maybe just a big garbage sack for the springs.

I always ask for the old stuff, though shady mechanics will usually keep a few bad parts around to "show" you that your whatever has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Shouldn't happen at Lexus or any major chain though. (Though some of you may remember that a lot of Sears Automotive dealerships a few years back got roasted for fraudulent repairs. Nothing is perfect.)

I did not ask up front but my dealer put the "old" parts back into the L-Tuned boxes.

Plan how you will dispose the stock stuff.

Stock shocks can not be just tossed in the dumpster (well you can but should not). Hopefully dealership will follow the right process by drilling them first.

You make it sound like the OEM parts are no longer useable after replacement. Am I to understand that if I got my OEM parts back and had them replaced with the L-tuned stuff that I wouldn't beable to sell them for some reason?

i have my stock intake siting in my garage, my 4 springs/shocks, about 4 sets of light bulbs, my stock brakes and pads as well as my stock shift **** and oil cap. I didn't take my exhaust though because it was just too big to carry home.

How was the exhaust too large? Wasn't it just the L/R muffler and pipe? Those wouldn't fit in your trunk?

I did some looking and the OEM L/R muffler/pipe list for nearly $600 bucks. Even if you could get a 1/3rd that much on ebay wouldn't it be worth keeping them?
