Hi All,
Even though I have owned my 2001 GS300 for almost nine years, I never had the need to look for any issues online (thank goodness.) Came across CL forums while searching for an issue that I have been having for couple of weeks and I am just amazed at the wealth of information here!
So here is the issue - I have been noticing a chirping/clicking noise coming from the center dash vents whenever the flow mode is set to front only, or front and legs mode. Switching the flow to any mode other than these two makes the chirping sound go away. Also, the noise is constant and doesn't seem to vary with speed or if I am idling.
I have checked the cabin filter (as suggested in some threads) and even though it needs changing, I didn't find anything there that might be causing this. Some of the other posts indicated that one or more of the servo motors need to be changed.
I was writing to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue that was related to the flow mode and if so what the resolution was.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning about my car now that I am hooked to CL.
Ajay
PS: The DIY post for the cabin filter was excellent. Will be doing that over the next few days.

You can pull out the center dash vent very easily. Just grab on and pull hard. The only thing that holds it in is clips in the dash. You can then at least physically look down in there or at the back of the vents to see what the condition is of that. Then maybe dig deeper. Also, you didn't by any chance lose a small bird in there?

Funny thing happened today - as per one of the suggestions, I tinkered with the center vent grill and cleaned the cabin filter and the annoying noise is now GONE. I am sure it is going to come back in the future but at least I will know what to fix when it comes back.
Thanks to all the members for all the helpful information on CL.

^ Either with a flathead and a rag to protect the surrounding leather, or you grab hold of it tightly somehow and yank it out. A combination of both might be better for the clips holding it in.

I too have this problem.
Sounds like dice rolling around when I first press the gas pedal.
As the car starts to move, it goes away.
It goes away for a few days, then comes back.
Glad someone addressed this issue.
