Camshaft Upgrade
I tried searching, but cant find exactly what I'm looking for. Has anyone performed a cam swap using Brian crower's stage 2 or 3 VVT-i cams on a non-turbo 2jzge engine? Something with common bolt ons, such as srt intake and full exhaust? Hopefully someone has some dyno numbers or knows of a link to some. Within the next year I need to replace my timing belt and plan on swapping cams, springs and retainers, if it is worth the investment.

Honestly it's not worth your money/time to put in the cams on a N/A car. You won't see any real benefit unless you get the car tuned and raise the redline to 7500rpm or so. No need to upgrade the springs and retainers if you're using the stage 2 cams. The stock valve train is good for 7500rpm or so, only need to upgrade when you start pushing 8k+ rpm. Stage 3 cams are higher lift and will require new valve springs because the stock ones will fatigue and snap with the higher lift. Either way the best power gain you're going to see from upgrading to stage 2, good tune, and increased redline is around 15-20hp or so. Keep in mind you're going to spend around $1000-1500 to get that 15-20hp. Wether it's worth it or not is up to you.
On the other hand, if your car is turbo'd the stage2 264 duration cams will net you on average around 40-50hp while making that same power with a few psi less. The stage3 272 cams(the set I have in my car) will net around 70-80hp extra on a big turbo setup, but you lose a decent amount of low end torque.
PS: Keep in mind, 15hp might not sound like a lot but on a NA 3.0L motor that's a pretty decent gain. Couple that with intake, header, a good exhaust, and most importantly a GOOD tune...and you should pick up around 30-40hp. Then again, with that money you're better off spending an extra 1-2k on top and getting a turbo setup
