New tires - "a deal"
Just got a set of Goodyear F1 GS-D2 tires to replace the badly worn OE Potenza RE's.
Did not do any real testing yet but they are quieter and the wear rating is higher.
The price was Can$164 (about US$100) and I really could not resist.
I read some comparisons in and there was no real problems noticed.

You will not believe this -
The screw came "no charge" - I only noticed it after looking at the picture on my monitor.
I guess I am lucky, I unscrewed it and the tire pressure is holding so far!

I don't know how long the screw is either, so if it was short, it was probably just embedded in the tread block, but this should be the best way to determine if you've got a (slow) leak or not.

That tread pattern looks very similar to the Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
GS4IV...you have to keep us posted on whether the Goodyears wear evenly. I have had problems with uneven wear when i had the RS4's on my car.

Your suspension and alignment was in good shape, and your tires still encountered uneven tire wear? More details please.

Can't quite tell from the pic, but looks like the screw went right in one of the sipes. But a miss is as good as a mile; no soap bubbles and you're pretty much ok.........

GS4IV,
If you can shoot by our Toronto meet on the 27th.. LexusRules will be finalizing the meeting location soon.. Good to see another Toronto GS owner.. Where abouts did you buy your GS if you don't mind me asking..
We bought ours at Ken Shaw.. Anyways if you see a Blue 2000 GS400 drive by you honk..
As for the OE tires we only got a summer and a bit of use (Maybe 25,000 kms) out of them.. Did you look at any Dunlop tires before the Goodyears??

Dex,
I keep the tire pressures at the recommend 32psi. I also sent the car in the dealership for an alignment.
Yet, after keeping the tire pressures the same, and have the dealer realign the car, the tread still wore out quicker on the edges than the middle. Yes, i know that means the tire might be over inflaited...but i experimented with psi ranging from 29-34. I also rotated the tires in the correct way for a non-directional tire.
On my other car, it had Goodyear Eagle Gt+4's on it. Even those had an uneven wear problem. I then switched to Michelin's and had no problems.
I'm not knocking down Goodyear Tire Co., but i haven't had much luck with them.

So far so good - I have pushed the tire a bit (fast cornering etc.) pressure still holds so does the tire with some semi-decent g's.
The screw was in one of the sipes and is about 1/2" and the inside end is shiny, looks like it was touching a steel belt?
The wear on the original tires was terrible so after the new ones went on I had the front end alignment checked - it was slightly out but IMO not enough to cause the bad wear.
The shop suggested running 38 psi and see if the wear is equal. I just do not see how this will help but I am trying it anyway.
The consequence is a more noticeable thump when running over road strips.
If you Toronto guys e-mail me the location I will try to come.
