Default Found a possible cause to clunking on my GS400.

I took my car down to my wrench to see if we could figure this out. We put it on the lift and started banging everything in sight with a rubber mallet. What we found was that the left front brake caliper slide (pin and bushing) had a ton of play in it. What he did was pack grease in the sleeve and reassembled it. No more clunking for now. Eventually the bracket will have to be replaced when the grease wears away, but for now I am pretty happy. Just thought this might help out some that have the annoying clunks that cannot be identified. Rattle. I had to add that word for people searching that term.

I always lube my parts . Another good practice is hardware, sometimes including slid pins if they look bad. Yes, I have seen bad slide pins. I always replace brake hardware and lube everything properly. Never had a problem with my brakes.

Sorry, no I don't. I should have taken my camera. It's a cylindrical part about 3/4" in diameter and about 3" long, if I remember correctly, that the allows the brake caliper to slide in and out when you apply the brakes. I doubt you could confuse it with anything else if you took your wheel off to investigate. Hope that helps.
