i dont understand why no one has come up with a gated shifter update to a pre 98 sc... your saying you want one with the small chrome and the wood on the shifter, right?

I don't think it's quite that easy to do...

As for Levoc, I have owned one and they're OK...they're not "cheap" in quality but they're not "really good" either. I agree though that the JZS14x GS shifter is ugly as sin...the SC's shifter is so much nicer...

Unhappy Gated Shifter and/or selectable gears

I have seen and used the levoc shift levers (on cars other than a Lexus) and they can look like you went out to Kmart and picked up a 9.99 blue light special and slapped it on your car. I have to admit that they do look nice from a distance, but upclose can be another story. My friends comes loose ALL THE TIME. It is really annoying and takes away from the aesthetic of the nice car. Another one I saw looked cheap and appeared like it was 4 year old and beaten on. I think a shift lever should be strong, solid, and functional....on top of looking nice. Out of the two levers I have seen, Levoc did not do it.

On a more functional note.....
Does anyone know how to change a 97 SC300 to a gated shifter? Any info would be helpful.

That sucks... if you would have waited one more year, youde have the gated shifter. No one i know has invented it yet, because the 97 uses a four speed with low range and 2nd gear and drive, so you would need a larger area... im pretty sure... but i know people willing to pay in excess of 1200 if someone can do it safely.

I know....the 98 has a nicer engine too. But I picked my car for its color, I just hoped that I would be able to do more with it. As to a larger area being needed to fit the gated shifter.....there is someone in my parking lot with a 99 and I don't see see it being oversized. I think it would fit fine. We just need the parts and a diagram of the 2 cars. If we can figure this out, we can put a nice shift **** and not worry about the overdirve button.
