that sucks i was really looking forward to getting a mpg display when buying a GS
i always hated my 95 SC didn't have one, but the 97+ SC's have a MPG display and a few other things, then i bought the 98 GS300 hoping it would have one, and now the 01 430 and still no

I recently replaced myself the two forward O2 sensors on our LS430. Took about an hour. You can buy the O2 sensors are Amazon for much less than the cost at the dealer. I posted a guide here for that. Have not had a need to replace them on the GS so I don't know if easy for DIY on the GS.

I would guess it just has one cable that plugs into the OBD II port that is typically easily accessible under the dash below the steering wheel as if you were plugging in a standard Code Reader like the one below:
I'm not too concerned over MPG but I would like to know what I am getting so if something is not running right I can tell. I don't mind burning some extra fuel for fun but if it is burning more than it has to in normal driving I'd like to know.

yeah i couldnt pass up on mine either i got it for 14k 2 years ago with 61k on it...came with ALL options except 17" chrome thank god, and the factory spoiler. now she has 109k but i wish i woulda waited as im now indulging the idea of a interior conversion to black so i have black on black. would love that black on saddle on sale in the classifieds but its not worth 3k

Well, I replaced all O2 sensors, all spark plugs, new PCV valve, new ECT sensor, new MAF sensor, fresh oil change and cleaned my air intake. Result = barely hitting 16mpg; i would say I drive about 60-70% city though. I guess my PI TC and my gears are really hurting me.
