Default GS430 rear suspension noise

Hello fellow lexus GS owners,

I recently noticed an annoying squeaking noise at the rear driver side suspension as my car starts to run. I took it to Les Schwab thinking it was my shocks or brakes. Turns out it wasn't either. The mechanic told me it was my upper ball joints that was the problem. He said the grease just probably dried up. Is this a common problem? If so can any one give me a solution. He suggested a quick fix by cutting a hole in the rubber and spraying wd40 Or replacing the ball joints. Any help would be great. By the way I have a 2001 GS430 with approx 105k miles.
