Default Replacing the windshield...

I was driving on Friday and hit a pebble on the highway going 80 MPH...Needless to say it cracked the windshield and its getting worse...It has spread an additional 2"(as of 1:30 Sunday) since Friday at like 5 PM, and i havent driven the car since. Its about 12-14" of crack I'd say on the bottom of the driver side and its spreading right, along the bottom...

My Insurance, State Farm, said i have zero deductible and that i could get it replaced by any glass company i want and then the agent listed some state farm recommendations. Heres my dilemma, should i get replaced at one of the local glass places in Gainesville(Im at UF) or drive 1.5 hrs to Jacksonville to get it replaced at a Lexus dealership OR wait till thurs May 2 when im in Miami....I asked the agent on the phone if they could stabilize the crack but she said she didnt think they could... What do you guys recommend??? How long does this take BTW???

hi guys,
mdw131, i'd try to get the car to a dealer, toyota glass is much better than the one your gonna get from the glass installers.

Get the dealer to do it if you can, unless you know for sure the shop had prior experiences with Lexus cars and agree to use OEM glass.

the work ~4-6 hours as I was told by the dealer,

is your 0 deductable only for glass or everything on your car?

I also have state farm but they told me i would have to pay my 250 deductable compreshensive cost. They also did not give a choice of dealer or glass shop. they said i could go to the dealer but the work would not be warranty under state farm.

I too had my glass cracked and replaced 2 days ago. 1999 gs300 from a glass shop. They used an aftermarket glass which looks the same but I did not have a choice. The guys doing the job wasn't the best, leaving molding unsecure. So go with a dealer if you can and check to see if they dish out replacing the windshield to someone else or they replace it themselfs, because i found out most dealer farm out their body work or repairs.

I wasnt clear on what she said....I thought she said i could dealer do it or glass shop it. She was pushing statefarm partners before i asked her about the dealer. She said its not worth it to go to the dealer, cause they sub out the work normally...How am i suppose to know if a glass shop is any good, i can obviosly ask about Toyota/Lexus glass but i doubt it since no dealer is close by.

My only problem is im in Gainesville, nearest dealer is jacksonville 1.5 hrs away i think....Im sure the dealer subs the work out and i cant just wait a few days in Jax while the work is done....My mom told me her friend cracker her windshield and it took 4-5 days for her subbed out work to get back to her.

I have finals coming up along with needing to pick up a friend in Tallahassee on Weds/Thurs to go to a concert...Im not sure if i can wait till May 2 when im back home in Miami since i have to drive the 2 hrs to Tally and 2 hrs back this thurs followed by 5 hrs to Miami next thurs....9 hrs of highway drivin added with Florida sun could make the crack get bigger.....

The autoglass place said they could come to my place and replace it in an hour....They use OEM toyota glass....I scheduled them to come out Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1.....Is that a bad idea?
