Do it once, do it right, get the oem.
Think about how long the oe lasted, also get new o-rings and expansion valve if you can.

His car is a 2004 GS. The stock evaporator only lasted for 5 years, not so good in my book lol . But in all seriousness the evaporator should work fine for at least 10-15+ years if not longer, especially in a Lexus where the parts quality is generally pretty good. Usually it will fail if there is some kind of impact or maybe a small manufacturing defect.

If you can find an aftermarket one with the same design and density as the OEM unit, then I say go for it but make sure the density of the fins is the same. I've seen some cheap aftermarket replacements that have less tube and fins than the OEM units, but those are usually the really crappy cheap ones. If you get a decent priced aftermarket, it should be just as good as OEM.

well i think i have a leak . every now and them i do have strong freon smell inside my car. I know how freon smells bc my GF bmw evap was leaking and i changed that one. The weird thing is the smell comes and goes, there are times that my AC is not as cold but most time is ice cold . The freon smell is ether from evaporator or expansion valve that is under dash too.

well....before u change out a condenser why not make sure u have a leak? hell you could just have a leak at the Schrader valve or someplace like that. have a mechanic inject some dye and then go hunting, if its a small leak they do make sealants for them. we sell them at work and i have one in my car actually. like i said i JW why u would be changing the evap coil. get it checked for a freon leak and find out where the leak is before you do anything

well....the KIT comes with a injector, dye, glasses, flashlight. most mechanics already have the kit and just purchase new dye cartridges. so you buying a kit would probably cost as much as it would for them to find it. NOW the seal kit to seal the pinhole leaks isnt to expensive. its like 50-75. also just cause the car has 100k doesnt mean you should have a leak....i had a car with 230ish i NEVER had a leak on
