Fuel system fluid treatment or perhaps getting it done professionally at a shop. Make sure your tire pressure is correct and remove unnecessary items from the car which may add weight.

lol ^^^

but seriously, how many miles are you getting on a full tank before the light comes on?
when i first got mine used, the first few tanks only gave me about 200miles, after an oil change and K&N air filter i now get around 270-280miles before the light comes on :/ I have a GS400 too.

hook it up to a toyota scanner and see how the car is running.
it sounds like ur car is dumping gas into the motor.
does it smell rich? like gas?
try finding a scanner and checking all the outputs you get. see if they are within specifications

Try cleaning your MAF sensor and get OEM spark plugs if you never changed them. Then disconnect the battery. Also driving habits could also be the culprit of this scene.

if its running a bit lean (thats something the mech said showed up)
does that severely affect the gas mileage?

oh yeah I cleaned the MAF sensor also in hopes of atleast 1 MPG better. but nah. not a ounce of difference.

driving habbits are those that are pretty lenient on the pedal. stay below 2K RPM about 90% of the time unless i need to overtake.

just got the car so I havent done a tune up yet.
but im not expecting much from that.... most people said no difference was really noticable gas mileage wise.

How do you caculate your MPG? If you do it manually, it's much accurate.

Next thought, your oxygen sensor might be switching too slow or switching incorrectly. You can determine that by using a scanner.

What kind of driving do you do? When I use to commute for a short distance with lots of stop and go, the engine never warmed up enough so I was getting maybe 12mpg. My commute changed from short to longer distance with slightly less traffic and I was able to get 16mpg.

im wondering how u calculate ur mpg as well. how many gallons' of gas do u fill up with 200 miles? our gas tank is only 19.8 if remembered correctly. and i dont suppose u drive until ur car stops right? im sure you are getting more than 10 mpg.

You fill your gas all the way. Reset your trip. The next time you go fill up gas. If it all the way to full again. Take the miles you have driven then divide it by the gallons you have purchased.
