I never changed mine out. The car runs fine with 107k on the clock to date. Where is this sensor located on the GS4? Pics would be great..

I'm not being sensitive. The other guy needs to cool down. I didn't try to prove him wrong. I just said you could check the coolant sensor on the scanner by looking at the sensor. You can also confirm it with an infared temperature gun and compare the difference. But of course getting a new sensor would give you a better feel. I was just giving my opinion. It is forum after all. Peace.

From my experience, our 2gs uses a long life coolant so I don't think it would harm the ect much. Unless you are running more water than coolant then it may corrode the sensor. Needless to say, our ect sensor doesn't really have to be changed. Unless you have the urge to change it go ahead.

Changed mine on a `96 LS400 with 210K miles. The old one didn't look bad and noticed only a little improvement in power response and gas mileage, but still glad I did it. Basically the car is smoother so I wanted to do it with my `98 GS400 at 240K miles. The sensor is in a different place and like others, I'd really appreciate some pics of the location and any instructions. Thanks in advance.

i put up a pic on page one... I THINK that may be it judging from what some LS members said that had the 1uz vvt engine.

i doubt it would be in a totally different place on a GS as compared to an LS

and you're right GS4 Fiend, its not a necessity to change it. Im pretty sure everyone's car is running and they arent complaining. and not even noticing the power they lost.

but I was just trying to have a little experiment going on here in the GS forums as there was one going on in the LS forum...

if its changed, its not going to make your car feel 2x more powerful, but the difference is noticeable.
that being said, why not regain some lost power that you forgot you had?

when I get some $$ I will try it out... and if anyone else is willing, go ahead!! give it a shot! look at the link I gave in the first post and see what the other guys said.

That looks like it also from the pic.
It is right under the throttle body on an angle , it is brass so it is easy to spot.

The only way to test it is by removing the sensor and placing it in a pot and boiling water then using a calibrated thermometer test the water temp and then measure the resistance on the sensor leads. No other way as well as it being in the toyota service manuals.
So if the sensor is giving the wrong resistance (ohms) in a known temp it is the same thing the scanner is going to read so how the hell could that be a test ?

I have a rule of thumb if i don't know what i am talking about I don't post.
If i am guessing , I put that and when i get proven wrong i admit i don't know not keep going to prove invalid points .

GL kosi , it is a cheap fix and works wonders.
Changing cats is rare as cats don't die they get murdered. If you ever wonder if they are working well ,seafoam the engine and clean them out.

ehh, all that testing to go through all that work, JUST take it out and then put it back in... makes no sense, like another member said in the original thread.

once you take it out, just put in a new one!

ive seen it in autozone for about $29.99
and from pembroke pines Lexus for ~ $45

word of advice, if anyone wants to do this, I recommend using the dealer sensor.

Seafoam is always scary the first time then you are strung out like crack, you just can;t get enough as it is so easy.

lol @ VatoZone...
but I only mentioned it because thats what the very first post about it had,,, that member used the Autozone sensor.

anyhow.... someone come do seafoam for me!!!
did you guys suck it into the brake booster vacuum line?
if so, I wonder how the hell could I do it. my brake booster's done for. I dont want seafoam getting stuck in there... or just not being pushed out properly.

You don't actually put it in the brake booster. You simply take off the line going to the booster, and put a small amount in there, then it is best to change your oil. It will not somehow travel back into the BB as the line is under vacuum pressure, so it will suck anything down that tube.

Lol I DID say the brake booster LINE didnt I?

Doesnt the seafoam have to be diluted with some water? maybe Im confusing some things though.
I was thinking of doing this with my LS but sold her before I got a chance to.
