Default ECT button light?

I just noticed that the ECT switch is not lit in my car. Is it supposed to be? I never really took notice but I assume it does.

Post According to dealer, ECT switch does not light

I purchased a 98 GS400 about two months ago and took it in to the dealer when I noticed that the ECT switch did not light up at night. They told me that it never did light up and is not supposed to because you get a lighted icon on the dash when the switch is in any mode other than normal.

It seems to me however, that the swith itself should light up at night to match the lighted heated seat and VSC switches.
