Oil Change at the Carwash
My car is about due for an oil change and its really dirty as well so I was going to kill two birds with one stone and take it to this car wash place in Austin. Its a really nice place and theyve done a great job the last time I got the car washed. Theres a special right now for a full service carwash and oil change for $29.95
It will include:
Oil change with 10w30 up to 5qts. of Castrol
replace oil filter
lubricate chassis
check air filter and wipers
Vacuum interior floors
Inflate tires
Wash exterior
Check and fill transmission fluid, differential fluid and battery as required
What Id like to know is if this oil is good enough to be put into our cars. Thanks!

it's fine. 10w-30 is approved in warm weather climate like Texas. Although just wait for the oil snobs to chime in within a few posts on how they will only use $10/quart oil in their car and change it every 1000 miles.
As long as you change oil in 7.5k(reg)/5k(severe) per the maintenance guide, regular oil is perfectly fine.
If you're the forgetful type (or person who will be using the car is forgetful), or plan on extended oil change, then you should not use regular, but synthetic instead.
(If you're going for extended oil change, it's a good idea to get a good filter too-at least Toyota OEM or better).
That also holds true if you have a turbo, but if you have undertaken such a thing in your 2GS, you're probably mechanically inclined enough to know your car's special maintenance requirements already.
You should ask them to skip filling the trans/diff, that could be screwed up if they use the wrong fluids.

Up to you if you trust Toyota/Lexus engineers or not.
I think many people have been convinced by oil marketing commercials, whether they realize it or not.
People trust the car manufacturer engineers on every other aspect of maintenace, except when it comes to oil, then suddenly the recommended OCI and oil requirements are not good enough.
The 2GS engines are really sturdy, the rest of your car will fall apart before you have oil-related problems even with the regular interval.

very simple answer to a simple question.
the GE is not so picky when it comes to oil.
If you're using dino oil, use dino oil. Change @ 3k. But don't push it more than 4k on a change.
If you want to switch to synthetic, run a blend for 2 oil changes. Change at 4k-4500.
If you're just constantly using a blend....well that's just silly and a waste of money. go full synthetic.
On full synthetic, you'd be wasting money to change it anywhere before 5k miles. You can push it to around 6k, but since the GE only holds 4.5-5 quarts, i wouldn't go much past 6500. My old ML430 used to be able to go almost 8k on an oil change, but that's because it held 8.5 quarts.
