The gear indicator light on the shifter panel sometimes goes dark after I shift from Park. If I shift back into Park and then into Drive - the light comes back on. Has anyone else had this experience?

mine too....

sometimes i could sit in park and the indicator isnt even lit up... but at the same time, i can shift into any gear without pressing the brake...

that goes for drive and reverse too...

I think my safety switch has gone bad

Loose connection causes this. Try hitting with your palm see if it lights up.

Can you post a pic of this im a lil confused you talking about the lights on the gauges where it tells you what gear your in because i have a 99 GS300 and i don't see any lights on the shifter panel

we're talking about the light on the cluster where it shows what gear you are in.

Yeah - what he said!
Look for the letter symbols (P R N D 4 3 2 1) located right by the shifter.
How do you insert a picture on this site?

Ok the cluster that makes sense my lights work fine i thought he was talking about lights being located near the shifter ****

op, pull cluster out, check bulb, get a terminal cleaner and clean copper connections on back where bulb goes in, change bulb while your in there

um u STILL talking bout the shifter lights, they talking bout the lights on the cluster not the ones by the cupholder

just in case anyone wants to know how to change that one though...
