SLEEPER408 did this to his 3GS wheels and they look very good. I'm now thinking of doing this myself for oem winter wheels.

This is how SLEEPER's wheels look like but it may not be dark enough for you. I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind though.

Use Duplicolor Wheel Spray Paint from Autozone. On one of the other forums im on (ScionLife) everyone paints their stockies and they all use this paint, I think some even made a DIY for it, let me know if you'd like it and ill find it for you.

Hey.... I see my wheel! Haha.... FYI, I had my wheels professionally painted at an industrial coating shop and they did an excellent job-- the whole wheel is painted, even the inner barrels. The finish is Gray Steel Pearl and pictures don't do the finish any justice. The paint changes to different shades at different angles because of the pearl. It's nothing crazy like chameleon paint but it's very subtle and is a nice touch IMO. Just something to think about in case you don't want to do black.

I did these to my gs400 17s in a gun metal color. Use the duplicolor as it is made for the DIYer. I also think that they have a DIY on their website. Good luck

I have painted a few sets of rims in my garage and remember to:
1. Pick a nice day to do it when the temp is at least 70 degrees outside or inside a ventilated space
2. clean the rims and make sure you remove all the dirt
3. dry them thoroughly so no water gets mixed with the paint
4. warm your spray paint so that it comes out smooth and use swiping motions when spraying.
5. you may want to lightly sand the surface of the wheel to help the paint stick
6. Apply thin layers multiple times
7. And wait at least 10 min between each coat

When i sprayed my rims it was a pretty warm day and i will say if you really want them glossy wait a few hours or even overnite b4 you spray the clear coat on them
That will give u the best results

in my garage on my page i have two pics with sum G35 rims that first i panted gunmetal wit a silver lip and now they are gloss black. hope this helps
oh yeah and the paint from autozone mentioned above is great. and if u can find engine enamel clear coat spray paint it will giv u a good look that will last
