Default Looking to close down on this deal tomorrow, I need some opinions.

hey whats up guys, Ive just lost out on a GREAT deal earlier today... I felt kind of sad. I was going to look at it tomorrow morning, but I called them for the second time today, and it was gone. a few hours before, it was still available.

It was a 01 GS430 alpine silver with black interior and navigation for $8500... tough one. but I know Im not going to find another 430 for that price with navigation.

SO ive settled for a black on black 98 gs400 with navigation. 106k miles.

some input would be great

EDIT!!!

I suffered another heart breaking lost....
that car was sold. before I could swoop down officially...

NOW, time to forget the past and look at the future.

im looking at another GS430 its from the dealership where the silver one was...
they said they would give it to me for the same price, even though it was initially higher.

check it out and give me some opinions.

what that gs430 was a great deal.. this gs400 is still a pretty good deal. that is pretty much what its worth. but yea go for it. its hard finding a nice clean low mileage GS for the right price especially in NY. trust me i was searching forever. I looked at at least 10+ GS's before I bought my 2.

the deal says 8300 aprox. (he dropped the price.) i possibly could get him down to 7700 maybe... if im lucky.

it was around last week and my brother and I negotiated him from 8900 to 8000....

im hoping i can get him to go lower than 8K this time around... he said a strut wasnt allowing the car to ride as smoothly as it could...

plus ive done the autocheck on it, it is very good. no accidents. and all lexus dealer maintenance.... all the way down to the timing belt and water pump done 8K miles ago

who cares about the nav. It's old an outdated. a simple Garmin Nuvi which runs about 200 will do a better job. I am glad my car did not come with navigation. Maybe 10 years ago, but today? Pass.

so i figured it wasnt worth keeping.

Default Buy from an owner

I wouldn't buy a car with over 100k miles without a pre-purchase inspection and service records. Chances are you will only get this with a private party sale.

Good luck

well a LOT of the service records are actually on the lexus website when I entered the VIN number... those were actual things that were done @ the dealer

and I planned on taking my mechanic there to get his opinion

you would need to register a vehicle on the Lexus Owners section in order to pull service records

I have another vehicle up now. to get opinions on.... the miles are high 133K High... just about the same as the silver 430 that I missed out on...

I entered the VIN on the lexus website, i see no records of timing belt being done... thats a heavy hit to me.

Like I said in the initial post, it was costing more than the Silver 430 initially, but now they lowered the price for me because I asked, "how could this car cost more and it doesnt have the navigation system like the silver one?"

so they knocked off 1K just because I said that.

Then he said well it costs more because frankly, it is in better condition than the silver one. and that this one is "immaculate" (a seller's favorite word. )

is there any reason to not even consider this car? other than the high miles?
and possibility of timing belt not being done?

I have always heard of toyota and lexus' being okay whether they have high miles or not and not to let it scare you away. BUT I take it that only applies to the engine, but what about the body? and chasis? ball joints may need to be done. and several other things here and there....

come on guys... help me purchase a GS!!!!
