phillips 6000k vs acura tl-s HID
#16
Thanks a lot, great research. I?m not really happy with my 98 HID bulbs. My observations are that latest Lexus installed bulbs (2000-2002) are much brighter than older models. TL light is way superb compare to Lexus, better output, and whiter light. Would be nice to see comparison of Stock-TL-P6000k.
I have bought 6000k bulbs and sold them because I could not install them (Got scared when could not remove metal housing on the back of the bulb). How do you remove that housing? Turn, Pull or???
I was trying to shift it to the left, it did not work either. The whole lamp assembly was moving instead.
Seeing you work, I will definitely get new Philips?s again
Group buy anyone?

I'd be in for a Phillips 6000k group buy. How about autolamps online. They know their stuff and others have ordered from them with no problems, what do you think?
I've been meaning to get them for the RX and have finally decided to just go with the 6000k instead of 4200, I trust Phillips and will only go for that brand.

the color change depends all on the projector. the reflector lens does not allow colr change from different angles. i have projector headlights in my first Gen GS and i DONT have color change from different angles. my light is pure white from all angles but the farther you are from the front of my car the brighter they look. its very nice. but i don't get the color change like audi. there projector lens have a little bit of blue on them

Wow did I ever jump into this thread late or what....
I always thought Acura used Philips D2R bulbs . Osram's 4100K OEM bulb is used by Audi and BMW and they are far from yellowish as we all know. Many people in this thread said it and I will affirm it: color is heavily reliant on the optics. I have no idea why that picture shows a yellowish white output, but that is unlike any Osram bulb I have encountered. The Philips Ultinon (5800K) is a good bulb too. It's slightly dimmer than the Philips 4100K OEM bulb, but still retains the high quality. Someone else mentioned to stay away from Korean/Taiwanese bulbs. I will affirm that statement as well. A recent study of all Asian-manufactured bulbs showed that their average lifespan was about 176 hours, which is worse than cheesy, generic halogen bulbs. Philips' and Osram's loom around the 3000 hour mark. Anyhow, this study shows massive failures in quality control on their behalf. Japanese HIDs are the one exception to the rule. If you have any more questions on that study, ask Nick from Autolamps about it. Suvlights is another respectible HID vendor. The guy that runs that business is Jen. Both places are one-man operations, but they are pros at what they do and have great customer service. I will say that Nick at Autolamps is slightly more professional than Jen is (at times). Only downside is that Nick is based out of Western Europe so there is about a week or so delay on his shipments, but even so, his prices are already very competitive. Happy hunting!

before you guys go crazy and order from Autolamps, WAIT. I have a group buy going that will save you some cash. I'm just finializing the details to make sure we get the right price when we order...

Count me in on that group buy. I saw that they are asking $145 a piece. Would be great to get a better deal. Also they are doing some promotion with buy 2 get 3rd free. I wonder is they would apply that to the group buy and we can average the costs that way.
Let me know.
Thanks.

Well right now, the only ClubLexus special I have running is for "conversion kits"...for people who don't already have HID...
Also, from now on, all Specials and Group Buys that are done THROUGH ME will be for PAID MEMBERS ONLY. I'm sick of "lurkers"/non-members and non-paying members getting the same deal as Paid Members.
I will show support for Paid Members because they show ClubLexus support by being a paid member (and yes, I paid too.)
If anyone has problems with this, PM me (guess I don't have to worry about lurkers/non-members PMing me! )
