A while back, there was some debate about the TL type s and its HID color. I got a hold of a TL HID bulb and put it in my GS to compare the color with my Phillips 6000K. Here are the pics. I did do a white balance, so the pics are as close to accurate as possible.

Yikes, your phillips 6000k makes the OEM HID look like crap, very yellow! I didn't think there would be that much of a difference. Makes me like the 6000k better now.

Someone that manufactured the HID aftermarket kit once told me that the color spectrum of the light emitted by the HID's is dependent on the projector lens of the headlight. If that is true, then it is possible that the TL-S projector lamp creates a whiter spectrum and you can't necessarily compare just the bulbs.

I am jumping midstream into this topic so I don't know if this debate was started because of the fact that the HID on the TL-S is yellower than the philips HID kit and I wouldn't know. Oh well...

how about taking those 2 bulbs and sticking them in a acura TL-S and taking pictures so we know its not the housing. i know for sure the TL-S light is pretty blue when i see them on the streets but your pictures make them look so yellow/white. how is the light output of the 6000k compared to stock tl-s. so it is true that the stock 4300k is better at night then the 6000k?

Interesting thought Brent, although, not all HID systems are "projector" type. Like ours, the GS I mean, some are "reflector", hence the varying two types of bulbs used DR2 & DS2.

I think what ricky has done here is an acceptable test respresenting the different color temps since both the GS and TL HID systems are both of the "reflector" type.

Not trying to play the role of lex400sc, who I consider the lighting guru or anything, just relaying what I've picked up here about HID systems.

maybe the light output is effected by the housing of the reflector lens that is why i suggested putting both bulbs 6000k and stock into the TL-S to see if its the same results or different

Just my 2 cents into this hid topic......... Eropean Projector lighting i.e. bmw, audi, mercedes all utilize sharp cut off on thier beam pattern. This is what gives that alluring puprlelish/bluish change of color when you see these OEM headlight head on. That effect essentially is the prism effect of the lens on the projectors. Our headlights are just free-form reflectors. What our HID burners put out.... is the color we get. By the way..... Philips 6000K ultinons are the best kelvin temperature color for our cars...... I've personally seen 4100K, 4300K, 5500K, 6000K, 7000K, and 8000K. 6000K are the only hids that look like true OEM HID with the tinge of blue. All the others can easily be mistaken for cheap colored bulbs..... Beware... there are tons of companie out there on the net and Ebay claiming thier kits are Philips 6000K ultinons. What you really get is a cheap Korean or Taiwanese kit.
