Default Need help diagnosing a sound. 2000 GS300 114K

I have noticed recently a sound when the engine is cold.

When I put the car in gear and as soon as I step on the gas pedal, just lightly I hear this light rattle sort of a droning sound. Let off the gas and it stops, step lightly again and I hear it.

If I jump on it I don't hear it..

It is related to the gas pedal and might be an exhaust issue???

When the car is warm I do not notice it. When cold, I can make the sound by stepping on the gas pedal gently. the sound only lasts a second or two. Only hear it when I first give it gas, more gas and it disappears.

Any advice??

Isn't the shield there for a reason? If I take it off does that have an adverse affect on the exhaust system or the cars undercarriage?

yes it is there for a reason! if its a rattle sound n its coming from the center of the car or seems lyk its right under ur transmission then its probably the heat shield. jus jack ur car up n look at the mid-pipe up to the headers. if u car is cold then jus press on the plates of metal that surround ur exhaust. if they move then thats the problem. i had this problem n i jus got an exhaust clamp for mufflers n sum heat resistant rubber tubing n ghetto fixed that rattling sound. i havent had that problem in over 4 months. but thats if its a loose heat shield. only other thing i can think of is that its about that time to change the timing belt, and serpentine belt for ur car if u nvr changed it. Did the T-belt and serpentine belt last week. thanks for the info. The sound is so slight only when cold and from a stand still to a slow start each time I tap the gas pedal. It's not a 'loud' rattle just sort of a annoying slight drone for a second each tap on the gas...
I'll check the heatshield out next week when its up in the air..
