MGP question/problem
So i filled my gas tank full, wrote down the milage 73,210. drove it till the light came on at 73,421 a total of 221 miles. correct me if i an wrong but our cars have 20 gallon tanks with the last 3 being reserve (when the light comes on). that comes out to exactly 13 mpg. i even add the lucas fuel injection cleaner in about a month ago to get better gas milage. wtf, am i wrong on our tank size? i hope so cause if not what else could be the problem. thanks in advance guys.

It's an 18 gallon tank, but the low gas warning light comes on very early, probably when there's at least 3 gallons left on the actual tank. You should do the MPG measure based on how much gas you actually put in, not the capacity of the car. I get 20mpg when I do city driving and 24 in highway. I've gotten as much as 27mpg on my 2001 GS300 on the highway (21.7mpg over the last 3000 miles). Cleaning the throttle body helped, think theres a DIY on that somewhere in this site.
Anybody get better mpg?

ok guys i just filled her up and it took 15.7 gallons. and i double checked our tank size and it is 19.8 gallons. 13 fricken miles per gallon, that sucks. granted all i do is city driving but really 13 mpg's. i will try and clean the t.b. but there has got to be another explanation.

also depends on what size wheel and tire you are running. 20's for example will make a difference in the mpg because of unsprung weight.
ex. my stock 16's with 215 65 16= 320miles to tank
my 20's staggard 225 35 (f) 255 35 (b) 290ish miles to tank.
heaiver wheel and tire!

ALSO OP
my light comes on and i still have bout 60-85 miles left as a reserve. your mileage will vary on alot of things.
your type of driving
city or highway
tires inflated properly
alignment
rim/tire size
WE HAVE TALKED BOUT THIS IN NUMEROUS THREADS BEFORE, please search sir. have addressed everything in some older threads

thanks guys, i didnt even think about the rim size(i am on staggered 20's with a 35 series tire). i dont drive "hard", i will check tire pressure and sorry about not searching, i was kinda like a rant post along with a question. and if the light came on with at least 3 gallons left then i guess i got beter than 13 mpg's.
