Smile What Amp is the cigarete lighter in the GS 400

Hi I'm considering getting a Viair 00073 70P Heavy Duty Portable Compressor.
They claim that it requires 15 amps for the lighter.

"The 70P Portable Air Compressor requires a power port rated for 15 amps."

I think I read that our cars lighters are rated at 20 amps. Is this true?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, it's fused for 1 amp.

IIRC they're usually 10 amps. 15 shouldnt hurt and well dont think any will hurt unless you have a surge. 10 or 15 would be sufficient IMO

IMO I would wire it direct to the battery. You get a good deal of voltage drop and resistance going through all the stock wiring. Having a direct path to the battery will allow your pump to run at max potential.

I agree. Run a relay and connect the power directly to the battery. Most automotive SPDT relay like the Bosch are able to handle up to 30A.

EDIT: there are some available in 40A and 70A if you want more headroom to run 2 pumps and such.

Smile air pump

Well I decided to get one that clamps right to the battery.
Model # is Viair 80p Portable Air Compressor Kit
it is $50 and free shipping from Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Compr.../dp/B00104EGWI

sounds like a much better idea to just clamp onto the battery rather than worry about blowing a fuse.

This unit sounds like it will pump up a low tire much faster than what I have now.

Thank all of you for your input
