Default Alright, searching for a GS430. Help?

Hey, I'm new here, not new to Lexus's.

I'm looking at the GS430 for a good daily driver, I just sold my Turboed Mustang GT for it. My truck gets 14 MPG .

Soooo, here's what I got.

link: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/1457365593.html

Higher mileage, but it has all the maintenance for it. I'm wondering what you guys think about it, cause I'm pretty serious about the car.

Thanks,
Brent

Well he seems to have everything in order, and thanks for the welcome.

I think me and my buddy are driving up to Baltimore tomorrow to go look at it, if everything seems okay then I'll probably get it. But for the long run, the motors are good?

Going to look at it tomorrow, hope to join the family. = ]

What are some things I should look for (bad things or good things? )

Here comes 15 hours of driving = ].

Atleast I'm not driving the Scursion, that'd be a nice gas bill.

I'd want to see a carfax/autocheck.... if it's clean and you can verify it with your eyes, that looks like a great deal.... almost too good to be true (craigslist.... hmmm....) check it out CLOSELY when you look at it...

that car looks nicely optioned... 17's, spoiler, wood, black/black...

Get down on your hands and knees and look over the under-carriage for signs of damage/repair/welding/rust/undercoating hiding a repair
Check the exhaust, and make sure it's not about to rust off....
Check all the wheels closely for curb damage... kinda tells how the car is taken care of... not a big deal... but...
Check the oil... should be clean-ish and full...
Shifts should be firm, crisp, and smooth... no check engine lite...
Should drive like a Lexus... silky smooth..... period....

I looked for several months for my 02 GS430... flew 500 miles to un-named highest-rated Lexus dealer for a 'perfect' example.... and travelled back home in a rental car.... pissed and disappointed... found a perfect example 2 days later, 600 miles the other way.... and went and bought it. Just sayin'... for that price, some imperfections would be expected, but don't let your emotions override your intelligence....

here's hoping it works out!! (and ace those pinstripes!)

in addition, check for the front lower balljoints... even tho the 430's should have the redesigned balljoints, they have been know to fail...

great advise here... you don't want to buy on emotion and it end up biting you... do your hw... contact him for the VIN and run the carfax before you go see it...

Well, I bought it.

Car looks good.

Paint: 8
Interior: 9
Underbody: 9
Underhood: 9

Car is what he said it was. Actually it had a brand new engine put in it around 56,000 miles, and he didn't even know? I was going through the receipts and saw it and he was like "Holy shhh, I didn't even know about that man!"

Oh well, that'll work for me.

Autocheck came back clean, I worked at an import car dealership for a summer, so I know what to look for when buying a car. Basically just check all the nuts and bolts around the body. No rust, no dents, no nothin.

Rock chips and a little acid rain, that's the sad part = [

Drove the car 407 miles home, got 25.1 miles per gallon, so this month's gas bill should be a nice surprise = ].

Why did I drive there? In case I didn't want it I didn't have to ask him for a ride to the airport haha. Besides my friend drove me in his Mom's Taurus and we had a freakin' blast.

Love the car, can't wait to DD it = ].

Dealer installed engine with receipts for it. The top end was rebuilt 5,000 miles before as well, with dealer receipts. I have dealer receipts for EVERYTHING = ].

Yep, calculated to every decimal. It was 25.108 haha.
