98 GS 300...I know this item has been discussed in detail before but it seems all who had this problem has had something a little different from the rest going on. My problem...Check engine light came a few of days ago, quickly followed by the VSC and VSC Off lights a couple of days later. The car runs "normal for about 20 minutes and then begins to run ruff as if its going to shut off when stopped. As long as I'm moving by applying positive acceleration, it appears to run normal with no loss of power. Only when slowing or stopping does the car begin to run harsh and spit/sputter. Now I read everything from number 6 spark plug to throttle sensor to throttle motor control unit. I think what separates my problem is that I have no loss of power until slowing down or stopping and only after the car has been running for about 20 minutes...any takers on this one...I'll be out of town for the next few days so I can't answer any questions...I think I covered all I can thus far. Thx for any help...

Yes, read codes. Possible vacuum leak. When you slow down, no throttle = too much vacuum not enough fuel. Run car at idle, listen for hissing take vacuum lines and pull on them visually inspect for rot or off of connector. Spray carb cleaner around to see if engine idles higher. Take off air connector from throttle body spray off throttle body butterfly to clean throttle body. Just some suggestions.

i had the same problem as well not too long ago it went from misfires to a vvti malfunction. all i did was a complete tune-up and did the seafoam cleaner after all that and a few full gas tanks later it was gone and now my car is normal again. so i would suggest a real good tune-up change of all fluids and plugs and maybe a fuel injector or seafoam cleaner as well.

Your best bet is to get the code checked like the others have posted. Regular maintainence is always a good idea (not implying that you don't), just generally speaking. After you find out what the code is post it and someone will help if you still need it.
