**Help Identifying Vacuum Hose - P0446 P0441

The hose from the EVAP filter (that connects to the EVAP solenoid which goes to manifold vacuum, is 23827-50050. List $39.44.
In a crunch, I plugged up the side going to the PCV filter (this MUST be plugged else it is a off idle vacuum leak) and ran code free for a long time.
The other side you can leave open, this leads to the tank.

Now the same thing started to happen on my 02 SC 430 71k miles. The EVAP hose would come undone once in a while and now the hose is in but I am getting codes. I really am hoping I don't have the replace the charcoal canister. Anyone had the same issue on the SC430?

What code are you getting? Solenoid code and it might have a pressure sensor to detect if the line integrity is intact. It only vacuums it down to about 1 psi, pretty small. So it basically closes the solenoid on the canister and opens the solenoid on the engine and it should see a pressure drop on the sensor.
Its a semi closed system that starts canister, through an air filter, to the carbon membrane (or whatever its called), goes to the solenoid, then to the gas tank, then the tank has another line come back up to the engine, which also has solenoid and then the solenoid opens when the throttle is open, if the throttle is closed, the solenoid is closed.
The only reason to replace the canister is if it is plugged and doesn't have a replaceable filter. I've seen some pretty nasty filters before. Leaves and debris sucked into them.

I am going to check the code again later on tonight because the light is on again then report back. How do you replace the filter on the canister? And thanks for the prompt response really appreciate it!

I haven't ever looked honestly, mine has 290k and does have an EVAP code, but I haven't really put effort into it, I had surgery 4 months ago and still recovering (Achilles heel) and the weather is too cold for me to mess around outside and deal with it. Evap codes aren't damaging in most cases. Loose gas cap or bad gas cap can set off a code (it won't be able to suck down the tank to 1 psi or so). The other codes will be the solenoids. I'd guess probably 4 codes available.
Not a lot of options for the codes.

OFF OFF (engine off/throttle closed)
OFF ON ( Test mode 1)
ON OFF (Test mode 2)
ON ON (normal while throttle is open)
And the pressure sensor will have a code or high or low pressure or failed sensor. I'll see if I can find out the available codes.

Sorry you are still not feeling well. I just got home and scanned it and I am keep getting P0440 and P0440 P. I remember the evap line kept coming off last summer and the SES light would keep coming on well this time it doesn't look like the hose is off but the light keeps coming on!?

for P0440 i got a new gas cap
for P0441 broken hose, replaced with some cheap fuel hose i had laying around, and then it came up a month later the figured the VSV was stuck partially open i tapped it a few times with a screw driver and it started working again.

The valve opens to purge the system, when it fails, it fails open or it fails closed. In YOUR case, its stuck in the close position prompting the 446 to pop up telling you theres a malfunction. Now how do I KNOW its the valve... Well, the OTHER code you're getting, 441 stating things aren't flowing the right direction. Now, how do the 2 make me KNOW its the valve? The hose you found that keeps coming undone confirms it.
Being that the valve is closed, theres no place to vent the pressure. Well... The pressure HAS to release SOMEwhere, where is it going to vent? Its weakest link. Whats the weakest link? A rubber hose with a little clamp holding it on
You don't need to replace the hose or clamp, its stiffness isnt an issue either. Replace the valve, reconnect the hose and you'll be alright

The hose wasn't disconnected but I did see that this first pic the circled area seemed to have broken off. The hose in the second pic is just hard and cracking.
