Default Glass inside Headlight Housing

I had an HID bulb randomly explode about a week ago. It worked fine for about 4 years, so I don't know what caused it.

It left fragments of glass inside the headlight housing and I have no idea how to get those out. It's hard to get anything inside the housing because of the shield that sits infront of the bulb.

Any suggestions?

Tried the shopvac... no luck.

Don't I have to remove the entire bumper to remove the headlights?

removing the bumper makes it much easier, but its been done with out doing so. Check the DIY links. there are 2 writeups on how to remove it with and without taking off bumper:

I saw the write-up on how to pull out the housing without removing the bumper. It still seems like a pain in the ***.

I'm thinking about finding a small diameter, flexible hose and attaching it somehow to the shopvac. I really don't feel like having to deal with all those bolts to remove the damn thing.

Does anyone know what could cause the bulb to explode? It's worked fine for years.

I haven't been on this forum in probably 9 months, but that thread he posted used to be stickied. What happened?

If you check out the FIRST post on our GS page, its the only sticky now which now houses ALL our stickies. It was to clean up our front page. We had like 15 stickies that was flooding it

not a bad idea actually...dont they make small pocket vacuums though?

could also get some compressed air and blow it out though another hole or something

this one made me chuckle
