98 GS 400 Steering Problem
Hi:
I'm having a problem with my Lex GS 400 that I'm looking for guidance on the solution to the problem.
When turning left or right there is a knocking/pinging sound coming from the front right side to the car. I've checked all of the ball joints, brake calipers but have not been able to determine the cause of this noise. Additionally, when stopped, if I crank the wheels left or right, the engine idle lowers (suspect that steering pump may not be working properly but have no way to confirm).
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Visually looking at the ball joints and suspension components don't always mean there ok.. You may have to dig deeper to find the issue.. The power steering pump usually makes a whining sound i thought.. Not a popping sound.. Could be a upper ball joint as well..

If you turn your wheels to lock, it's a strain on the power steering, that will lower idle cuz of the load, that's normal more or less.
You would have to jack the wheel up and check the ball joints with a dial indicator or you can put a pry bar under your tire and lift up to try to see if there is a lot of play in the lower joint (most likely one to go).
