recently ive noticed that my car is running cold. the temps here in northern VA have dropped to about the mid 20s and ive had my car for three years but recently ill drive for maybe 25 miles 30 miles and my car will not even reach the first notch on the temp guage. on top of this my gas millage has gone to hell. i was easily getting 330 to 340 miles a tank and now im struggling to get like 260 275 on my 2001 gs430. i was wondering if anyone has experienced simmilar issues. i remember driving last year in single digit weather and my car would still reach almost half way to the temp guage. also my heater on the car takes ages to get warm... nothing like it used to be. i was wondering if it might be the thermostat thats broken causing the car to constantly try to cool the motor causing the low temp and the bad gas millage. plz help

I'd say it's the thermostat. I had exactly the same issues on my Soarer (1UZFE) and even went up 2 notches above normal operating temperature. Fearing a suspected blown head gasket/s (owning a car with a 7MGE previously will always make sure you keep an eye on the temps!) I started to have a look around and checked the thermostat and it was jammed to buggery. Swapped it out with some fresh coolant and all is well.
Check your thermostat!

I mean it's not that drastic, your car even though it might be in closed loop isn't running that rich to the point where it's going to do the above. It runs rich, but it doesn't run like it would be if it were misfiring, and plus there is no CEL for a rich situation so it's not as if it were out of it's specs, clearly the fuel trim can adjust for it. But as other have said, and for the fourth time, I'd guess the thermostat is suspect, if that doesn't solve your issue, you could have the gauge temp sender reading faulty. But since your seeing signs of fuel economy being lost, I would guess its the thermo. If it were me, a thermostat is < $20, and takes about 30 mins to put in, including bleeding the cooling system after you install.
