Issues after getting car back from bodyshop
My 2001 GS300 was involved in an accident recently and I noticed something after getting it back from the repair facility that doesn't seem right.
It was my understanding that when I have the recirculating air mode in 'Auto', the AC is always ON independent of the outside temperatures. This is what the manual says on Pg 140 (at least my interpretation and experience during the past 9 years I have owned this car.)
Since getting the car, I have a blast of hot air coming from the vents even when I have set the temperature setting to 66 (lowest possible with heater on.) The hot air continues even after I have driven the car for 15-20 minutes and it is getting uncomfortably hot inside. Also, the AC light is OFF even with the recirculating air mode set to AUTO. I live in suburban Chicago and it has been extremely cold here during the past few days. Can the extreme cold explain this (this is what the repair shop guy said when I talked to him earlier today)?
I have had this car for 9 years and all these years I have been in Chicago and have never experienced this?
Is there another explanation for this?
Thanks,
Ajay

Bad servo. I find it suspicious that it just so happens to go out right after the body shop.... I'd ask the employees who worked on your car what was done, and who did it. If someone messed up, have them pay for the replacement./

Yea same, it does seem suspicious, but back in 2002 my dad had his car repaired after a crash, and after getting it back it was leaking coolant really bad. Took it to the dealer and there was a rust hole in the water pump. We expected it was from the crash but my dad asked for the dealer to give us back the old pump and you could see the hole. The crash must have been enough to dislodge any remaining rust that was keeping the hole from leaking....sold the car a year later so don't know how it is these days.

Before I talk to the body shop guy again, can someone confirm that if I have the AC controls on AUTO and recirculating air mode set to AUTO as well, the AC is ALWAYS ON?
