if the thread bar indicator thing is already wearing out.. your tires are considered bald and are "unsafe" to drive on.

I can't give you an "accurate reply" without any numbers. If you got the wheels and tires for free, sure it's worth putting on new tires if thats the wheels you want.

BUT, I wouldn't driving even a mile with those tires; especially if your friends in Brooklyn NY also.

Those tires are not useable. Have the seller dismount them and dispose of them. It will also make the shipping alot easier/cheaper.
